Dexton's Top 40 (17/07/2018) (Week 62)
An interesting week for sure... for the 2nd time in two consecutive weeks we have two new entries in the Top 2! Drake was gunning for his 2nd #1 with In My Feelings debuting at the top, but alas Ariana Grande's God Is A Woman released just this weekend has beat Drake to the top and earned a 2nd #1 for herself! Meanwhile the rest of the Top 5 shuffles around with Blonde's Me, Myself & I featuring Bryn Christopher (1-3), Ella Mai's Boo'd Up featuring Nicki Minaj & Quavo (2-4), and Panic! At The Disco's High Hopes (4-5). Panic!'s other current Top 10 hit Hey Look Ma, I Made It (3-6) falls out of the Top 5 along with Maroon 5's Girls Like You featuring Cardi B (5-7). Not dropping down though are Jonas Blue's Rise featuring Jack & Jack (10-8) which rises for yet another week, Sigala, Fuse ODG, & Sean Paul's Feels Like Home featuring Kent Jones (16-9), and Cheat Codes & Little Mix's Only You (11-10) which beats the curse of the #11 peak. Speaking of #11 peak.. The Rubens' Never Ever featuring Sarah Aarons (15-11) borders on the Top 10 - will The Rubens become the 4th artist this year to suffer the fate of a missed Top 10 hit? Previous "flops" include MAX's Lights Down Low featuring gnash, Thundamentals' Sally featuring Mataya, and Khalid & H.E.R.'s This Way. Panic! At The Disco edge closer to their 4th Top 10 hit with King Of The Clouds (14-13), meanwhile Paramore earn their 4th Top 20 single in Caught In The Middle (29-19). It's a week of minor climbs for the most part though: Pink's Whatever You Want (20-18), Tiλsto & Dzeko's Jackie Chan featuring Preme & Post Malone (22-21), Years & Years' All For You (27-22), Taylor Swift's Delicate (26-24), Jax Jones' Ring Ring featuring Mabel & Rich The Kid (32-28), Hayden James' Just Friends featuring Boy Matthews (34-29), OneRepublic's Connection (37-30), and MNEK's Colour featuring Hailee Steinfeld (39-34). Hayden James is back into the Top 30 with thanks to BJSC returning to our screens, although is short from climbing past his previous peak of #25 - Just Friends features Boy Matthews who makes his 2nd chart appearance on Dan Farber's Time For Living (Wankelmut Remix). Other new entries come from Hilltop Hoods, who make their debut chart entry with Clark Grisworld featuring Adrian Eagle (#26) from their upcoming album. Similarly Twenty One Pilots are here for the first time with a new single - but it's not Jumpsuit  I much prefer Nico And The Niners (#36) to Jumpsuit although neither are the duo's best tbh. Portugal. Things to note:
- This is the first week since about January that Khalid hasnt featured on any chart entry with Ocean falling 33-OUT. Benny Blancos Eastside featuring Khalid & Halsey may enter next week though but it looks like Khalid holds the record for most weeks on the chart combined. - Starting from next week my album chart will be changing to be ordered from Most Played rather than Most Liked which is sort of is now, Im not entirely sure how itll change (if much at all) but itll be interesting

Not sure what I make of new Ariana, it's a bit more understated than 'No Tears' and not as immediate. I'll reserve judgment until I've heard it a few more times I guess. Not even going to bother commenting on Drake, each to their own lol. Surprised you're charting 'Nico' instead of 'Jumpsuit' for TOP, I've heard both and I think I prefer 'Jumpsuit', so I'm glad that's the one that's being promoted. Good to see Rise still on the rise

 'God Is A Woman' is a solid #1 this week! I really didn't get it on first listen but it has quietly crept up on me during subsequent listens, yay. *.* 'In My Feelings' on the other hand sounded like an inferior mish-mash of 'God's Plan' and 'Nice For What' on the chart show so I'm not sure about that at the moment, might also need more listens. My favourite new entry this week however is 'Tidal Wave'  Portugal. The Man sadly scream one hit wonder success-wise but I'm pleased that they have some other quality songs up their sleeve. Great stuff

Although I see what you mean with it being a bit of a mix between that & Nice For What, although this doesn't use a sample like NFW did so it's not a complete copy Portugal. The Man have an entire 2017 album full of quality songs I'm yet to listen to anything else from them from before Woodstock actually so maybe I need to do some digging...Thanks for commenting! |

Wonder if it can do the same officially New Hilltop Hoods  I remember them from when they released 1955 a few years back but haven't heard anything from them since - I'm liking this one, could be a grower as well!Haven't heard Tidal Wave yet either - giving it a play now, not hitting me on first listen unfortunately, I guess PTM will be a one-hit wonder  Great chart

As youve likely gathered by now I am back to doing my own weekly personal chart  , yes it is the return of the Top 40 Countdown by awardinary. Part of my reasons for doing this was not only to express my enjoyment of music but also to give my opinions on what music others are currently enjoying too! With that in mind, let me share my opinion on your chart! My highlights from your chart at the moment are Maroon 5, Jonas Blue, Sigala, Cheat Codes, Kygo & Imagine Dragons, Clean Bandit, George Ezra, Tiλsto, Jax Jones, MNEK, Years & Years and Duke Dumont.  Do you have a public playlist of your personal chart either on Apple Music, Spotify or YouTube? If so I would be interested in following it (if I dont already!). Also Id just like to add that its my privilege to be asked to be one quarter of the moderating team here in the personal charts forum, and just like the other 3, I want you to find me approachable too. Amazing to see God Is A Woman at #1 here. She's really been on fire this era and is sure to be another #1 from her in my chart next week too. Lucid Dreams has been one of my favourite hits of the year. The sample just works so well in it. In My Feelings hasn't hit me yet but I'm sure I'll probably end up loving it. Great chart
