The first big awards of the season are nearly amongst us with the Golden Globes nominations are announced Thursday 7th December (I think at 1:30pm UK but don't quote me on that) and is the award that can make or break some films & performances chances amongst awards season.
What are your hopes for this year's awards? What do you think will happen? Hype away and nominations will be posted in this thread when they come! Also there's supposedly going to be something new revealed during the nominations. It's not this year's host as that's coming later per sources so what do you think it'll be? I have a feeling it could be to make it eligible for foreign language films to compete in Best Drama because of Roma this year being a major contender. Who do you want to host this year's show?! |

And on perfect timing we have some news for nominations:
QUOTE Awards season is about to hit a major checkpoint when the Golden Globe nominations are announced this week. Organizers the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said today that Terry Crews, Danai Gurira, Leslie Mann and Christian Slater have been tapped to read the nominees for the 76th annual awards during a press conference bright and early at 5 AM PT on Thursday at the Beverly Hilton. The presenters will announce all nominees for the 25 categories at the event, which will also include a major announcement about the Golden Globes, HFPA teased today. The nominations will be exclusively streamed on Facebook from the Golden Globes official Facebook Page and on the Golden Globes website and will also be on Deadline. UGH FFS. That's 1pm our time which means I'm in a lesson then ffs :/ |

Absolutely gobsmacked and delighted that an anime film (and what's more, an anime film that WASN'T made by Studio Ghibli) has bagged a nomination in the Animated category - "Mirai", which is directed by one of my favourite anime directors of the past few years, Mamoru Hosoda (who also directed Summer Wars, The Boy & The Beast and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time).
Also great to see Rami Malik getting a nod for "Bohemian Rhapsody" - I can't see him getting a nod at the Oscars, so glad to see him at least getting some recognition at this level. |

Nicole Kidman to win that award please. Just seeing the trailer it gave me goosebumps the same way as when I saw Three Billboards last year

My predictions:
Best Motion Picture - Drama Predicated Winner: A Star Is Born (one of my most confident predictions I can't see this losing) Should win: A Star Is Born Alternative Prediction: unfortunately Bohemian Rhapsody, HFPA love it but if it wins that could mean the pedo director goes up which better not f***ing happen: BK and BP could also pull off a surprise win here Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy Should win: Mary Poppins Returns (TF could overtake when I see it) Will win: Green Book Alternate: The Favourite Can low-key see any 5 winning but I think they'll stan GB a hell of a lot. I would've been more confident in Mary slaying here a month ago than I am now and CRA could honestly surprise. Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama Should win: Lady Gaga - A Star Is Born Will win: Lady Gaga - A Star Is Born Alternate: Glenn Close - The Wife Thanks Nicole and Rosamund for turning up x Melissa could spoil but I think it's unlikely. I can see globes going for Gaga over Glenn Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama Should win: Bradley Cooper - A star Is Born Will win: Rami malek - Bohemian Rhapsody Alternate: Bradley cooper - ASIB Yep globes are obsessed with BR and I can see this being the place to reward it hopefully Cooper can pull through! It's a two horse race here Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy Should win: Emily Blunt - Mary Poppins Returns (all bar Blunt/Wu unseen) Will win: Olivia Colman - The Favkurite Alternate: Emily Blunt - Mary Poppins Returns Pretty sure Olivia takes it but Emily has a chance to upset. No one else is winning here. Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy Should win: Lin-Manuel Miranda - Mary Poppins Returns (rest all unseen) Will win: Christian Bale - Vice Alternate: Vigo Mortensen - Green Book I can def see Viggo pulling off a shock win here though. Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture Will win: Rachel Weisz - The Favourite Alternate: Adams/Stone/King Anyone not named Claire Foy has a very strong chance here, though loads of pundits are predicting Weisz so I'll go with her. Def gonna be one of the most interesting categories of the night. Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture Should win: Driver is the only one I've seen Will win: Timothee Chalamet - Beautiful Boy Alternate: Richard E. Grant - Can You Ever Forgive Me Yep this category (as normal) will have the random winner of the night. Best Director - Motion Picture Should win: Bradley Cooper - A Star is Born Will win: Alfonso Cuaron - Roma Alternate: Spike Lee - BlacKkKlansman Can see any of the above 3 winning but it'll probs be Cuaron. Best Screenplay - Motion Picture Will win: The Favourite Alternate: Green Book I can see any of the 3 comedy best pic noms taking this. Best Motion Picture - Animated Should win: Incredibles 2 Will win: Spider Man Spoiler: Incredibles 2 I think a shock could happen here but spider man probs takes it. Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language Should win: Roma (only one seen) Will win: Roma Alternate: Capernaum Biggest lock of the night. Best Original Score - Motion Picture Should win: Marco Beltrami - A Quiet Place Will win: Ludwig Goransson - Black Panther Alternate: Hurwitz - First Man/Shaiman - Mary Poppins Returns I feel this will end up being the category to either reward BP or MPR in. Best Original Song - Motion Picture Should win: Shallow - ASIB Will win: Shallow - ASIB Alternate: All The Stars - BP Probs the biggest lock of the night. |

These are my wacky predictions which are most certainly wrong. I think A Star Is Born will either win a bunch (Drama, Director, Actress, Song) or barely win any (Song)...
Best Motion Picture - Drama Black Panther (or A Star Is Born) Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy Green Book (The Favourite seems too peculiar for the Golden Globes) Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama Glenn Close - The Wife (Gaga is so obvious but maybe a little too obvious) Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama Rami Malek - Bohemian Rhapsody Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy Olivia Colman - The Favourite Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy Christian Bale - Vice Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture Regina King - If Beale Street Could Talk (Amy will win for Sharp Objects, and I don't think they'll want to reward Vice too much after the critical/commercial disappointment) Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture Mahershala Ali - Green Book Best Director - Motion Picture Alfonso Cuarón - Roma (I think Spike Lee is a possible underdog here as he has never won before) Best Screenplay - Motion Picture Deborah Davis & Tony McNamara - The Favourite Best Motion Picture - Animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (wouldn't be surprised with an Incredibles 2 win though) Best Original Score - Motion Picture Marc Shaiman - Mary Poppins Returns Best Original Song - Motion Picture Shallow - A Star Is Born |

Wish I could stay up and watch but have to get up for work at 6am
Unpopular opinion I know, but I didn't love A Star is Born! I think Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga deserve their awards for acting but hope the film doesn't win best picture. Bo Rhap for the win! |
