6th January 2019

It's a 6th total week on top for the Carpenters, as the new year brings fresh music, fresh climbs, and oldies dropping, xmas songs exiting again. Camelphat get a 2nd top 10, Alan Walker joins himself in the top 10, his 4th, and Albin Lee Meldau his first. Mercury Rev get a 4th top 20, Monkees an umpteenth, depending on how EP's count, and Robbie gets yet another top 20 as he also brings in a low-key lead track off his fansite only 3rd album. What with Take That, Boyzone, Backstreet Boys, it's quite the 90's boyband theme.

Andy Burrows is the highest new entry, he's previously topped my chart twice, once with Razorlight, once with I Am Arrows, and gone top 10 solo a few times too. Tom Jones did a flawless off-the-cuff vocal performance on The Voice, with the son of Lonnie Donegan, writer of I'll Never Fall In Love Again, Tom's fab 1967 hit ballad - and has sold loads on itunes as a result. So an excuse to make my charts for the 3rd time then, as I loved it when I was 9 years old and I wasn't quite charting at the time, or else it would have been 4th time round. Other oldies in: lead vocalist of Marmalade Dean Ford died this week, sadly, so Reflections Of My Life is also back, their best record of many minor gems, and also the Captain (Daryl Dragon) of Captain & Tennille has died, so Neil Sedaka's 1976 song top 5 hit for them (in my charts and the USA, but not the UK) is back in.

A Chris Isaac moody cover is in for RAIGN, Backstreet Boys get a swift 2nd entry on their latest comeback, and Mary Poppins Returns with the 2 best songs from the new fab movie. It's underperforming at the box office and charts, but I see a future children's classic there.

Replies to last-week's, chart comments, and other stuff to follow when I get a mo, been occupied with taking mum to a&e on wed night and saturday all day following a fall. It's mainly pain management now, but 12 hours in total worrying in a&e isn't great for one's stress-levels!

Hi John!

Giving Lost Control a listen now, I'm quite liking it! Is it a single or just an album track? The drop is particularly nice I think.

I don't think I'm that familiar with Marmalade so I'm giving Reflections of My Life a listen now, I'm quite enjoying it! Sounding very much of its time I think but in a good way.

Nice to see Play and Happy Now enter lower down in your chart as well - both nice little dance tracks biggrin.gif

Great chart!

Hi Pete!

That reminds me, I need to compile my BJSC chart of the year 2018 laugh.gif

Lost Control is an album track so far, I think, I'm hoping it's the next single and gets a push.

Marmalade were big for 4 years or so in the UK, but have largely been forgotten, which is a shame, they had some good stuff, and so did solo spin-off Junior Campbell. Reflections could prob sound decent with a new version for a xmas ad, I think!

cheers!
