As it's taking me forever to get round to finishing my top 800 (life is difficult and time-consuming) I thought I'd do a sort of list of "candidates", give or take a dozen or so that failed to top my chart, by listing all my chart-toppers by decade and year.

First up The 60's: I started charting in 1968, but there are loads that have since topped my charts that pre-date Hey Jude, and loads from 1968 and 1969 that have topped my charts in the decades since, but I hate having oldies in the wrong year, so have listed them in the year-of-release or year-of-topping if they topped following the year of release (some have runs that take them over the New Year).

The number of weeks for each year will therefore not ever equal 52, the 60's and 70's will be way more because those are my pop roots and everyone loves the music of their younger days more than the music of their later years - it's more ingrained, more nostalgia, has more memories attached, and it stays alive and vital in your memory more than, say, records you love in your 40's and beyond. So, later years will have less than 52 weeks due to the amount of oldies that top my charts since the millennium while not being old enough to top my charts as oldies, bar maybe 10 or so.

So, 1959 through 1969:

John, finally I will know all # 1s from your chart. smile.gif

My impossible dream is the compiling of retrospective charts from 1949 to 2012 (when I mostly lost interest to the current music). At least wish to have my # 1s list.

I have only three songs with 10 or more weeks at # 1 for all period.

They are :
1. Anmary - Beautiful Song (2012) (14 weeks at # 1)

2. Sue Wilkinson - You've Got To Be A Hustler (1980) (10 weeks at # 1)

3. Sinead Quinn - I Can't Break Down (2003) (10 weeks at # 1)

Some other ultimate hits in my chart (minimum 7 weeks at # 1 and obviously it's not full list, almost without 50s and 60s songs) :
Rosemary Clooney - This Ole House (1954) (my favourite single from 50s decade)
Twinkle - Lonely Singing Doll (UK version of France Gall Eurovision winning song) (1965)

Dana - All Kinds Of Everything (1970)
New Seekers - You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me (1973)
ABBA - Honey Honey (1974)
Reparata - Shoes (1975) (7 weeks)
Brotherhood Of Man - My Sweet Rosalie (1976)
ABBA - When I Kissed A Teacher (1976)
ABBA - That's Me (1977)
Twiggy - Rings (1977) (7 weeks)
Twiggy - Fallen Angel (1978) (7 weeks)
Blondie - (I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence, Dear (1978) (7 weeks)
Blondie - Sunday Girl (1979) (9 weeks)
ABBA - Angeleyes (1979) (7 weeks)

Bucks Fizz - The Land Of Make Believe (1981) (9 weeks)
Renee and Renato - Save Your Love (1982) (7 weeks)
Sweet Dreams - I'm Never Giving Up (1983) (7 weeks)
Madonna - Like A Virgin (1984) (7 weeks)
Madonna - Material Girl (1985) (7 weeks)

Samantha Janus - A Message To Your Heart (1991) (7 weeks)
Shampoo - Trouble (1994)
Madonna - You'll See (1995) (7 weeks)
Steps - Say You'll Be Mine (1999) (7 weeks)

Britney Spears - Lucky (2000) (9 weeks)
Steps - It's The Way You Make Me Feel (2001) (9 weeks)
allSTARS* - Best Friends (2001) (7 weeks)
allSTARS* - The Land Of Make Believe (2002) (7 weeks)
Sinead Quinn - What You Need Is (2003) (7 weeks)
Geri Halliwell - Desire (2005) (8 weeks)
YVA - Brunetes, Blondines (2007) (9 weeks)
Girls Aloud - Can't Speak French (2008) (7 weeks)
Britney Spears - If You Seek Amy (2009) (7 weeks)

Amy Macdonald - Don't Tell Me That It's Over (2010) (7 weeks)
Natalija Bunke - Sirdis Ant Balto Sniego (2011)

There are not any big surprises for the followers of my rankings. Personal all-time favourite acts with their best songs, Eurovision participants and some iconic singles like "Shoes" and "Save Your Love".
Natalija Bunke is main vocalist of my all-time # 1 favourite act (Lithuanian girl group YVA).
Amy Macdonald was # 1 with almost every her single from first two albums.

Hi Alex, I don't know that AnMary track but the other 2 charted for me - I think Sinead Quin did quite well (just checked, it peaked at 5 and had a long run) smile.gif

In the rest of your lists there are 7 chart-toppers in my charts, so not long to find out which ones biggrin.gif

"Beautiful Song" is Latvian entry from Eurovision 2012 and got DNQ result as the most my Eurovision favourites from 2004, when the semifinals were inducted.

Her Eurovision and two performances from the pre-selection here. They are very different, so will post them all.

I love them all, but the last (from Latvian semifinal) is my favourite, idea with book "A History of Eurovision" was great.

"Beautiful Song" lyrics.

QUOTE
I was born in distant 1980
The year that Irish Johnny Logan won
Thirty years or more, they still remember
So dream away, today’s the day I’m singing my song

When I join this grand parade of winners
And will make this song a worldwide hit
I will buy, oh, my own mic to sing in
And all the jobs I had before I’m surely gonna quit

Beautiful song is on the radio, is in the TV shows and plays on and on
Beautiful song that everybody hums and everybody loves
Beautiful song is on the radio, is in the TV shows and plays on and on
Beautiful song that everybody hums and everybody loves

My mamma said to grow and be a singer
Dad just smiled and gave me my guitar
I did my best and I’ll be so much better
Brightest and the highest and the furthest of the stars

And on the day when Sir Mick Jagger phones me
Tell him please that I am very busy
Writing brand new songs for Paul McCartney
“So sorry Mick, I’ll call you back, one day I’ll call you back”

Beautiful song is on the radio, is in the TV shows and plays on and on
Beautiful song that everybody hums and everybody loves
Beautiful song is on the radio, is in the TV shows and plays on and on
Beautiful song that everybody hums and everybody loves
