Haim have confirmed on this post that new music will be releasing before they play Pitchfork Music Fest which is on July 19th.

Can't wait biggrin.gif

I don't think that post necessarily confirmed an album is coming but I'm looking forward to hearing new songs from them! Something to Tell You feels very underrated/forgotten now sad.gif
Juan Carlos
The initials of their new song are SG.

I assume nothing is coming out today then? Must have changed their mind for it not to be out before they play that festival.
WhoOdyssey
It's called 'Summer Girl' and they did perform it live!

Dan17F1
Ahhh thanks! Completely missed that.
Bjork
Summer Girl sounds nice

was checking tehir setlist and they played 2 Paula Cole covers, any particular reason?
they did the only 2 Paula Cole songs that are popular, Where have all the Cowboys Gone, which was a US top 10 and UK top 20,
and I Don't Wanna Wait, which was never a hit but it's famous for being the Dawsons Creek song...
Paula Cole is amazing, one of the most underrated female singer songwriters ever, so glad Haim did a sorta homage to her, not sure why, but very welcome
Bjork
found their Where Have all the Cowboys Gone cover, it's great!!!

love the description: This was funny and weird and epic at the same time

and heres their cover of the other Paula Cole song, I Don't Wanna Wait

Bjork
is the new single out tomorrow then?

Reportedly to be out next week. "Summer Girl" samples "Walk On The Wild Side" by Lou Reed, who shares writing credits, alongside Ariel Rechtshaid and Rostam Batmanglij.
WhoOdyssey
Rostam formerly of Vampire Weekend!

Confirmed for this week!

Summer Girl is out tomorrow!

summer girl is out tomo. so excited to start releasing new music as we’re working on it - kinda like we did before our first album. we finished this song a couple weeks ago and thought, why don’t we shoot something real quick and release it ! (more on the video tomorrow) this song started out as a garage band demo in my phone with just a bass line, drums, some gibberish and a doot doot doot little melody. I wrote it around the time my partner was diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago while we were making STTY. (he’s in the clear now!) we were touring on and off at this time and every time we were on the phone with each other or when I would come home in between shows, I wanted to be this light that shined on him when he was feeling very dark. I wanted to be his hope when he was feeling hopeless. so I kept singing these lines - I’m your sunny girl/ I’m your fuzzy girl/ I’m your summer girl - over the bass line. summer girl stuck. fast forward to a couple months ago -I remembered this demo and pulled it up from my phone. I brought it to my friend rostam to see if he wanted to work on it. he wrote the sax part within the first couple minutes of working on it and it all clicked. we were kinda joking about how the doot doot doot part reminded us of walk on the wild side and then he put this stand up bass part on top of the electric bass part and It sounded amazing! the palette was there- v inspired by Lou. and we kept it that way. I brought it back to my partner Ariel- where the inspo first started - and he put some finishing touches on it and here we are ! hope u guys vibe with it - ur summer girl in italy 😊 d

Bjork
oh great video
WhoOdyssey
This is brilliant!

I have seen mixed reactions to this but it's beautiful — the story of how the song was made, too.

Great new direction.

Bjork
yes the story behind the song is very touching

In a press statement, Danielle Haim said she started writing the song after her partner was diagnosed with cancer. “ I was on tour and felt like I was trying to send positive energy his way almost telepathically. Whenever I would come home in between shows I wanted to be his sunshine - his summer when he was feeling dark. His hope when he was feeling hopeless.”

Her partner Ariel Rechtshaid, who also produced the song.

It's wonderful — the sax and tweak in sound really works for them
Bjork
I think he's been their producer for a while, not sure for their debut but sure he produced album 2

Oh, I know that — he did also produce most of the debut.

I like this. I don’t quite love it yet but I definitely welcome the attempt to do something a bit different from their first two albums. Love the sax!
Jαsє
omg this is SUBLIME. The jazz element is really unexpected but it really works wub.gif
SLlewellyn
This has grown on me massively - hope it can get some radio support.
Bré
I think this will definitely be a grower but I am liking it, the saxophone is lovely! I enjoyed the singles from their last album but I don't really feel any great desire to return to them, kind of felt like more of the same from the debut but a little watered down, so it's probably a good idea for them to switch up their sound a bit for this album.
