My initial reaction is that I'm amazed I've only ever sent 5 male vocal led tracks (and the last 2 contests were the first ever consecutive occurrences). 100% qualifying record too in that department however a lower finishing average. All but 1 of my DNQs have been female-led vocals (that 4-in-a-row run last year, jeez!) and looking at the stats I generally do best when sending instrumentals with 5 of my 6 purely-instrumental qualifiers finishing within the top 15! I do remember it took me about 20 contests to send ANY male vocals alone, I had some in groups here and there before this, but my first sole male vocalist was in BJSC 59, a full two years and a bit after I joined! And then I entered 4 male vocalists/bands in a row. No one mention that one of them was nightcored.
I've entered more male vocals in recent years, although I still do tend towards women, I reckon, without checking, I may come back once I've checked, that I'm sitting somewhere around 70/30. Having done a quick count, it's 51 females, 12 solely male, 10 mixed and I count 6 instrumentals, so I've missed two of my entries somewhere, I've got 81. One of them is probably Marnik as I'm not sure whether it's just a girl choir or a mixed one, but that's the approx ratio we're looking at. Anecdotal but I see just as many guys doing well as girls now if not more so. It used to be so much more one-sided, that entering a male band felt like a death sentence. |

Most of my entries are by male acts but when it comes to who supplies the vocal it is overwhelmingly female, says a lot that I've literally sent more instrumental tracks than male vocal led ones!!

I DNQ with all sorts, but of those that have qualified (22, I think) 12 of them have male vocals (albeit 3 of them male and female duets), 12 of them female (albeit 3 of them m/f) and one instrumental, so 50/50.
2 of the duets are Bollywood, female vocals on 2 70's, and one each 80's, 90's, 00's track, but only one 80's track with a male vocal. No 60's tracks have ever qualified for me, though one came very close. |

Female vocal 5 (4 qualified,1 didn't qualify) So I have an 80% success rate with songs with a female vocal,Swimming With Sharks were the only ones not to qualify. It's only 53% for males. 2 duets. I'm counting 'Routine' and 'Silver Screen Shower Scene' as female/male duets. 1 qualified,the other didn't. 2 instrumentals. 1 qualified,the other didn't. (I'm counting the Rollo Goes Camping one as an instrumental even though there are a few vocals on it) |
