We expect that constantly hearing Basil's 'Boom Boom' blaring out in the streets of both nations has been a positive experience. But you know what was even more of a positive experience? THIS FINAL! It was a pleasure to do multiple listen-throughs when the quality was so high. We always thought it would be tough when only 2/20 of our semi votes DNQed but yeah... it really was a bloodbath. We could type out commiserations for days and days but we've tried to limit it to 8 (!), so apologies to these nations:

Edged its way into our points at the last minute! We appreciated the Lana Del Rey-esque vocals and found the general vibe to be a lot of fun.

We are much appreciating the Aeroche dark renaissance of 2k19! The production in particular was killer on this one.

03 Skall: Korallreven - The Highest State Of Grace
Can always count on Skall to bring the quality! I appreciated how this song progressed, especially when it reached the Friendly Fires-esque finale. We hope we've done you guys proud with our Skall recycle this contest.

04 Hushkanukia: Marion Raven - We Are W.I.T.C.H.
I'm so shook that this qualified, in the best kind of way *.* This still doesn't feel like enough for such a tune of life! But yes, it had to slot into my votes even in such a strong contest. 'We Are W.I.T.C.H.' makes me so happy each time due to the nostalgic factor. <3 stans 4 life.

05 Terra Avium: The Snake Charmer - Nageena (Siren Of The Sands)
This feels quintessentially Terra Avium and we're here for it! You can't go wrong with an outlandish ethno-bop. Minus points for the lack of "smash the notification bell" during the YouTuber outro though tbh.

06 The Actual Republic of Bellamia: Lewis Blissett - Killing Butterflies
Our fellow AQ buddies! Wasn't it a fantastic feeling when we simultaneously got our best results ever last time?! *.* It's been an absolute pleasure to co-host with you! The song this month is excellent too, I definitely hear splatters of Troye Sivan. Who knew The Voice Kids housed actual talent?

07 Bøtanikkä: Ayla - Angelfalls (Elemental Force)
Addy you often do retro dance so well and this is definitely one of those occasions! What a glorious trance experience, take our points.

08 Rolloland: UNKLE feat. Richard Ashcroft - Lonely Soul
I was introduced to this track a few years ago when Dandy was trying to get me into UNKLE, but it's been a while since I last heard it, so thank you for reintroducing it to me! The instrumentation is stunning and Richard was a good fit alongside. Another one in my votes that progresses really well.

09 Espen: DEVILNOTCRY - NotEnoughOfYou
A Jadakissnia contest without a witch house entry? I don't think so!! Thank you for providing such a gem, it's great that Russia are keeping the witch house scene alive. Foreign language vocals and spooky beats are a match made in heaven.

10 Arcodesia: God Is An Astronaut - Echoes
This got my top points in the semi and I thought it was a dead cert for a medal, but this stayed about the same in my affections while a few others grew more. But 10 points is still absolutely fantastic, Arcodesia are becoming such an exciting nation for me right now. Gotta love a prog-rock instrumental!

11 Oslol: Bjørn Olav Edvardsen & Arcteec - Mountains
Woah where did THIS come from?! *.* This is instantly one of your best entries to date. The falsetto vocals and synths are such a dreamy combination, it reminds me a bit of one of my own entries - 'Waves' by Hugar feat. Arnor Dan. Hope this can be yet another Oslol hit for 2019!

12 Persephonia: Kælan Mikla - Draumadís
Normality is restored as Persephonia are firmly back in my points! This outcome didn't look so clear cut though as this 'only' got 2 points from me in the semi. This was due to the lo-fi nature of the vocals, I felt that they were quite drowned out. But it all clicked into place on subsequent listens as I got used to all the components of the song! I could never snub an Icelandic song really (well... except the New Lexico one. Oops. That was nice though) and those spooky synths really do the talking! Such a return to form for Persephonia.

13 Sergeistan: Zivert - Beverly Hills
Wow, you could say that I am just a tad impressed with Sergeistan's debut entry! I had faith in you guys after knowing what your music taste was like beforehand. I adore the 80s-esque synth production coupled with bi-lingual vocals, there's such a timeless feel to the whole package. I simply must check out more from Zivert now that the album is out there! Thank you for the discovery and keep up the good work.

15 Summericia: Covenant - Dead Stars
Okay, yes, this is more like it - Summericia are well and truly back *.* I feel like I haven't voted for you guys in a while but I was a huge fan a few years ago. This is the kind of stuff you do excellently, either spooky songs or synths! This harks back to the sound of Kraftwerk and of course I am 100% behind that. This has improved with every single listen and feels right to be up here in my medals. Congrats!

Somehow I have never given Trifoski an 18 before despite the psychic nation being my 3rd favourite overall, what! Well, that has all changed now. I first heard of Moses Sumney via James Blake's latest album and he has not disappointed with his solo stuff! This is so addictive in its urgency and lyrical content. It was compared to Young Fathers on plug.dj and I can totally see that. Hope this absolutely smashes for you tonight!

Good evening to the people of Jadakissnia and all international viewers, here with the results of the Persephonian televote, and we've managed to fix the minor voting bug that resulted in us snubbing Rompasso last month *cough* normal service is resumed

Our 18 with considerable ease goes to token post-rock entry of the month from Arcodesia, an absolute stormer that we can confirm sounds even better at ear piercingly loud volume as we hoped *.* post-rock is one of those genres that's just easy mode for getting high points from us and it's our first medal position to this nation, beating their previous best of 12 achieved in BJSC 110 (also with a post-rock entry naturally). No stranger to our medal positions though due to the old bloc voting algorithm which malfunctioned last month but is now fixed, it's 15 points to our wonderful and lovely host nation Jadakissnia with an equally wonderful and lovely James Blake esque entry rumour has it this Active Child song actually first made its rounds in the nation of the Bellsprout via some imported 7"s coming out of Persephonia which were in turn smuggled in from Skall so no surprise that it's near the top of our votes, the second 15 we've given to Jadakissnia this year and the 15th time in all they've ranked in our top 3. Completing our top 3 is a nation on fine form of late, it's 13 points to Espen with a spooktacular Russian witch house cut which has stood out more and more as time has gone by, second time they've been in our medal positions this year following the 18 to Sho Madjozi and their 10th medal position from us in total to date.

The biggest grower of the month, hopping up from just 4 points to 12 on our final national listenthrough, it's the first points we've given in a final to Wholune with an addictive and catchy pop rock tune. 11 points go to the iconic viral Mongolian throat singing metal track (need we say any more why we voted for it xx) from Beaverdonia and 10 points to the best retro dance entry from Bøtanikkä in quite a while (their first points from us since BJSC 107). Making a reappearance after an even longer wait is Ultraviolenceland who pick up 9 points with their lovely Lana Del Rey/Chris Isaak hybrid soundalike, their first points since we gave 8 to Liv Dawson in BJSC 88 which was also the previous highest points we'd ever given to them. Another nation making a comeback to our votes, 8 points go to Summericia with a Kraftwerk sampling retro electronic bop, miles better than their last couple of entries and our first points to them since BJSC 102. And then yet another comeback, as well as Jadakissnia the other auto-qualifier also gets points from us, it's 7 points to The Actual Republic of Bellamia with a semi-spoopy Troye Sivan-alike which is their first points from us since BJSC 92 and the first time they've ranked in our top 10 of a final since our 10 points (2nd place) to tyDi way back in BJSC 57! This is the second highest we've ever ranked one of their entries, oh my. Completing the top 10, 6 points go to a catchy but srs toe-tapper from Trifoski who have had a bit of a shorter wait since last getting points from us.

Filling out the mealworms: 5 points to another spoopy delight from Aeroche, 4 points to the returning Terra Avium with a typically unique ethnobop, 3 points to a grower from Cowtermont which we like a lot more than the last time someone recycled Feed Me (aka Spor) from us, 2 points to a beautiful track from Oslol, one of their best entries to date which we hope won't end their success streak, and 1 point goes to Skall with a lovely Friendly Fires esque bop which we should probably like more but it grew enough on the final listenthrough to just sneak in.
