Fontaines D.C. confirmed a while ago that they had finished recording their second album, the follow up to last year's critically acclaimed debut 'Dogrel' - and it seems we'll be getting the first track of it not too far away! They've been saying that the new album has been inspired by The Beach Boys, so I can't wait to hear where those influences come in. |

The album is titled 'A Hero's Death' and is out on July 31st, the title track is out now and it's everything I wanted! The harmonies are lush.

I imagine this will be big commercially. Radio 1 late to the game with their debut singles only removing 'Liberty Bell' the other week so I imagine this will get a lot of rotation on daytime playlists.

Randomly, 'I Don't Belong' released yesterday, but they've said nothing about it on social media at all! It's another good one though.

Whilst I really like A Hero's Death I'm not sure it's as good as almost all of Dogrel, which is pretty much perfect. Interested to hear the new one.

I enjoyed their socially distanced performance of the albums title track last night on Jools Holland. : ) I've just got round to seeing it and very good it was too. I've loved most of what I've heard from the so far (which is quite a lot). A Hero's Death is very reminiscent of 90s Irish band A House. |

'I Don't Belong' is the first song from them that's really grabbed my attention, lovely stuff.

I've seen them twice and they're great so will definitely hope to get a ticket for this. Leicester on a Monday I guess it has to be.

This album is going to be really special I think, an early review from Q gives it 5 stars!

Didn't immediately click with 'Televised Mind' on first listen the other week but I have revisited it and glad that I have as it's grown on me a lot, I think I'm actually liking it even more than 'I Don't Belong' now.
I don't know if this is even the vibe they're going for but I find these two songs kind of weirdly relaxing in their simplicity? I relistened to 'A Hero's Death' as well and I'm still not as into that one and I think it might be because there's a little too much going on in it - it's like Fontaines D.C. are at their best for me when they put the least amount of effort into their songs maybe I am way off but regardless they have successfully scratched an itch that I'm not getting from any other guitar music recently that I can think of. |
