Greetings and Merry Covidmass one and all. Before the year comes to a close and TBO XIII begins, we'd like to update you about some changes to the Mod Team. After many years of dedicated commitment to the BJSC Veto process Oricon/Yu-Hin/Daehun will be stepping down from his Mod role. We'd all like to thank him for his many years of hard work and I'm sure he'll keep finding various ways to skirt round the veto even from outside the mod gang.
This means that we have an opening available for a New Moderator to be in position for BJSC 131 - and we're interested in hearing from you! If you think you have what it takes to steer this contest into a (hopefully) post-covid world then we encourage all applicants to send a PM to moi (LexC) by 23:59 GMT on Sunday 27th December (look, it's not like you're doing anything for christmas this year anyway!). For anyone interested in applying, all that we ask is you answer the following question: "Why should you be a BJSC Mod?" You have an unlimited character and word count in which to make your response. If you have any questions about what the job involves then either myself, Bre or Silas/Phil are available to answer them via PM as well. Best Wishes and Good Luck! The BJSC Mods |

Best of luck to everyone and I'd encourage you to give it a shot if you're unsure - it's a really fun mod position with a lot more benefits (of peeking behind the curtain) than most mod positions on here.

will you be searching for a k/j/etc-pop token stan since Daehun was all about that jazz + k-pop has been doing well/featured a lot recently?
representation is important. bra = indie-ish/alternative ashton (sorry for deadnaming, i can't spell 'Bebe Askorzahara Benet' xo) = irrelevant pop new lexico = semi-irrelevant pop ? = k-pop/someone who can actually score more than 1 top 10 a year dahhling did i crack the code |

That's not official policy but it may well shake out that way depending on who applies!

This is exciting! If you even have the slightest of inklings to apply, then do it - no harm in giving it a go and letting the team know you're interested. Good luck to everyone applying

Oh no, I'm so disappointed that Yu has gone. He'd always been such a big personality in BJSC before I left in 2018. He'll be missed here!

I would encourage as many of you who have an interest, however faint, to apply. Some of our best mods have come from unexpected applications and it is the primary reason that I really enjoy an application process for this job.
It is important for me to stress that preconceived notions of what the job might entail can be cast aside too. Yes there can be a big time commitment, but I would say that anyone who has been able to pull off a successful hosting job in either the main contest or a spin off has already put an equivalent time into this forum for that month than is required on average for the mod job (or even more time depending on how elaborate your hosting was!). Time zones are irrelevant, I started as BJSC Mod from GMT +10, and so I certainly would encourage our North American/Oceanian participants not to be put off by them thinking that there will be an issue because they aren't in a central time zone shared with Europe. Yes, ok things can get a little eeeek when veto decisions aren't so well received but for the most part it is really a lot of fun. It is the best mod job on the site, I would know i have done a fair number of them over the past decade! We have a fairly well engaged community who care a lot and fundamentally we all want a fun way to find cool new music we might never have found on our own. Creativity is a bonus - those spin off themes don't think of themselves!! Above all though, we are just looking for someone who enjoys BJSC, who cares about BJSC and wants to help us start 2021 with a bang. The worlds on f***ing fire, we're stuck at home, so lets do what we can to make 2021 a little lighter and brighter for us all. Genuinely look forward to reading all of your applications and as Lex said in the OP if you have any Qs feel free to fire them my way |
