Could those cassettes and late iTunes surge have swung it for Wellerman?

Strong Top 10 last year!
15 years since the first Top 40 single on downloads alone (Black Eyed Peas - Pump It at #16), of course it wasn't long until the first such #1!

Biography

No Rome
With an intoxicating mix of R&B, shoegaze, and electronic dream pop, No Rome developed his sound in his native Philippines, turning out a handful of independent releases before gaining international success in 2018 as part of the U.K. label Dirty Hit's roster. Rome Gomez was born and raised in Manila to a musical family and began recording and releasing his own music at the age of 12. A singer, songwriter, and producer, Gomez began using the No Rome moniker for his laid-back electronic pop songs in 2013, releasing his first EP, Fantasy, that same year. A second independent EP, Hurry Home & Rest, appeared in 2015, after which No Rome signed with London's Dirty Hit Records, home to acts like the 1975 and the Japanese House. He would go on to work with 1975 members Matty Healy and George Daniel on his label debut, the 2018 EP RIP Indo Hisashi, which featured the breakout single "Narcissist." The EP Crying in the Prettiest Places, featuring the singles "Cashmoney" and "Pink," arrived in May 2019. - Apple Music

Charli XCX
Whether she’s penning defiantly joyous singles like “I Love It” or exploring her darker side, Charli XCX is proof that you don’t need to stay in one lane to become a massive success. Born Charlotte Aitchison in 1992 in Cambridge, England, to Scottish and Gujarati Indian parents, Charli took up songwriting at 14, lifting her stage name from her instant messenger handle. On the strength of her MySpace uploads and performances at London raves, she landed a record deal at 18, released the modestly successful darkwave cuts “Stay Away” and “Nuclear Seasons,” then hit the big time with 2012’s kiss-off anthem “I Love It.” Originally scrapped from her own album for being too poppy, the beat-pounding re-recording by Swedish duo Icona Pop quickly became a worldwide dance-floor favorite. Her goth-tinged debut album, 2013’s True Romance, and tracks like the psychedelic, Gold Panda-sampling "You (Ha Ha Ha)” soon positioned Charli as the missing link between Grimes’ freak scene, Lorde’s dark melodies, and Carly Rae Jepsen’s sweetness. Never one to repeat herself, she’s built a track record as a prolific songwriter and collaborator, penning hits for Iggy Azalea (“Fancy”) and Selena Gomez (“Same Old Love”), and working with the likes of Lil Yachty, David Guetta, and BTS. She even followed up the 2019 eclectic, star-studded Charli with 2020’s intimate how i'm feeling now, an album written with fan input during her six-week pandemic quarantine. One thing is clear: Charli XCX’s creative drive and willingness to take risks has made her one of the most unique, enthralling artists of her era. - Apple Music

The 1975
The 1975 had already released a platinum-selling album—their 2013 self-titled debut—before they learned to trust their own instincts. “It’s hard to have that confidence when you’re young,” frontman Matty Healy told Apple Music. “A lot of people’s early music has a lot to do with: ‘Is this cool enough to show my mates?’ That can kill bands if they never leave The Hawley Arms”—the Camden pub/epicenter of British indie music in the 2000s. So when they began to make their second album, 2016’s I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it, the four-piece resolved to ignore outside expectation. As Healy recalls, it was time to “do exactly what we want.” It was a smart move.

Formed at school in Wilmslow, south of Manchester, in 2002, the group spent the second half of the 2010s becoming one of Britain’s biggest bands by continuously reinventing its sound. They’d begun by cloaking ’80s pop drama in the gauzy atmospherics of shoegaze on 2012’s Facedown EP, but were assimilating folk, UK garage, emo, techno, classical, and spoken-word features from Greta Thunberg by the time their 22-track fourth album Notes on a Conditional Form arrived in 2020. At the center of their sonic mazes, Healy, the son of TV actors Denise Welch and Tim Healy, addresses personal dramas and hot-button cultural themes with honesty and wit. If opening up about addiction and recovery ever threaten to shroud him in rock ’n’ roll folklore, songs such as “The Birthday Party”—partly about being too embarrassed to defecate if someone’s in the next room—deflate the myth-making.

Sprawling, restless, and striding snake-hipped along the line between invention and self-indulgence, their records often resemble great playlists rather than traditional albums. “We create in the way that we consume—with that same kind of pan-excitement,” said Healy. “There’s no rules when it comes to streaming. It doesn’t say, ‘Don’t listen to Headie One after Carole King.’ It’s almost like we don’t have those rules as well. There’s a lot of abrupt scene changes—but that’s what life’s like.”

Biography

DJ Snake
Compared to many of his chart-topping EDM peers, DJ Snake keeps a relatively low profile: He doesn’t do many interviews, and he’s rarely photographed without a pair of oversized black sunglasses. Instead, the French-Algerian producer (born William Grigahcine in 1986) lets his music do the talking. With a range that extends from earthshaking trap to lilting tropical house, DJ Snake doesn’t have an obvious stylistic signature; instead, his fingerprints are audible in details like precision-tooled snares, vividly tweaked vocal samples, and an almost three-dimensional approach to sound design. Raised in Paris, the former graffiti artist and hip-hop DJ first broke through by working on Lady Gaga’s “Government Hooker,” but it was his 2013 song “Turn Down for What”—a battering ram of a trap anthem made all the more antic by Lil Jon’s ranted, titular refrain—that kicked open the doors to the world stage. Two years later, teaming up with Major Lazer and MØ, he showed a more sensitive side on “Lean On,” which paired slo-mo house with crystalline finger-snaps and one of the year’s most infectious choruses. Since then, on his 2016 debut album, Encore, and elsewhere, he’s continued to expand the limits of his sound—giving Justin Bieber the world’s most opulent air mattress to fall into on the buoyant “Let Me Love You,” or unspooling slinky, acoustically tinged Afrobeats for Nigerian singer Niniola on “Maradona Riddim.” It’s an ironic title: Diego Maradona is one of the world’s most flamboyant figures in soccer, while DJ Snake, true to his namesake, is as stealthy as they come—you never know where he’s going to strike next. - Apple Music

Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez is a multi-talented performer with featured roles on the screen, both small and big, and a musical career that reached the summit of the charts from the very beginning. Her group Selena Gomez & the Scene issued a trio of breezy modern pop albums from 2009 to 2011 that each reached the Top Ten. After going solo, she scored a pair of number ones with the more adult-oriented Stars Dance (2013) and Revival (2015), then branched out into new sounds on collaborations with Kygo ("It Ain't Me") and Marshmello ("Wolves"). She hit the top of the singles chart for the first time with "Lose You to Love Me" (2019), a soul-searching ballad that delved into Gomez's real-life relationships and marked a new openness in her lyrical approach. The single's subsequent parent release, Rare (2020), became her third straight number one album. - Apple Music

Biography

Inspired by similarly forthright rappers Lil' Kim, Trina, and Khia, as well as R&B artist Teedra Moses, Saweetie broke through with her gold-certified 2017 single "ICY GRL" and two years later scored a Top 40 pop hit with "My Type."

Born in Santa Clara, Diamonté Harper grew up in and around the Bay Area, primarily in the city of Hayward. Though she aspired to be a rapper in early childhood, she excelled academically, earned a full-ride college scholarship, and obtained a degree after attending San Diego State and the University of Southern California. Harper's interest in music intensified once she got some attention for short performance clips uploaded to Instagram. One set of nonchalantly celebratory rhymes, delivered over the instrumental of Khia's 2002 hit "My Neck, My Back," developed into "ICY GRL," her debut as Saweetie. The official video for the track, uploaded in October 2017, went viral and notched millions of views, and led to a major-label deal with Warner Bros.

Saweetie's first EP, High Maintenance, arrived in March 2018 and entered Billboard's R&B/hip-hop chart at number 32. Centerpiece "ICY GRL" was certified gold the following January. Almost exactly a year after the arrival of High Maintenance, the rapper returned with a second EP, ICY. Two tracks featured Quavo, but that August, the London on Da Track-produced solo cut "My Type" took Saweetie into the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. A stand-alone track, "Tap In," arrived in June 2020.

The beginning for some reason reminds me of 'In da Club' and 'Work It' with how the rap goes.
