26 March marked 35 years since the release of 'Live to Tell', the lead single from Madonna's third studio album 'True Blue'. The song's instrumental was composed by Patrick Leonard who presented it to Madonna and together they added lyrics and melodies. It was a musical departure from Madonna, much darker and complex than her usual style as it deals with themes of deceit and emotional trauma. Madonna's vocal is deeper and profound and the production is haunting and mysterious to reflect the tone of the lyrics. Madonna's new sound was welcomed by critics who still praise it as one of her best ballads and it became a top 10 hit across the world, including #1 in Canada, Italy and the US. 35 years on, what are you thoughts and memories of 'Live to Tell'? |
