Adam Peaty remains on course to become the first British swimmer to retain an Olympic title as he breezed into the 100m breaststroke final in Tokyo.
The world record holder, 26, qualified fastest from the semi-finals with a time of 57.63 seconds and will race in the final at 03:12 BST on Monday. James Wilby also made it into the final by finishing third fastest in the first semi-final with a time of 59 seconds. |

And still unbeaten in 7 years, holds the top 15 fastest times in history in the 100m breaststroke, now he is a double Olympic champion. Quite pheromonal from Adam Peaty.

Woke up just in time to watch it, very tense waiting for the final Chinese dive. Thrilled for Tom though.

Yeeeess for Tom and Matty
Attitude are obviously posting it all over social media after having them on the cover! The emotion from them was great to see. They had 6 excellent dives. Chinese pair threw it away with one of their dives |

Good to see some golds for Team GB in the pool! Well deserved to both.
I have to say I was more intrigued by the gold for Ahmed Hafnaoui of Tunisia yesterday - seemed to come completely out of the blue, I saw him scrape into the final a couple of days ago but certainly didn't expect him to win the thing. |

Adam Peaty does deserve more recognition - he dominates his sport and no-one is close to him. I always think it’s a shame they don’t have 50m events as he’d have 4 golds now

Honestly I kind of thought Tom Daley had retired so was rather surprised to hear the news of him finally winning a gold! (can you tell I haven't been watching the Olympics coverage this year yet... I am starting to get more roped into the hype as the medal table develops though x) Not sure how long diving careers typically last but getting a first Olympic gold 13 years after making his debut in the competition feels like rather a long time - thrilled that he's finally pulled it off though after settling for bronze twice before (and ofc congrats to Matty Lee as well).
The stats on Adam Peaty's dominance in the 100m breaststroke are pretty astonishing. It's really like no one else even has a chance in that event. |

Daley hasn't ruled out Paris 2024. Adam Peaty now has the 16 fastest ever times in the 100m breaststroke.

Decided to tune in for the final of the men's 200m freestyle while I'm still up at this hour since Duncan Scott of Great Britain was being hyped for a gold medal... he ended up getting silver. Behind Tom Dean, also of Great Britain (after he was being mostly ignored in favour of Duncan Scott hype in the pre-race commentary). *.* what an event to choose to be the first I tuned in to watch ~
(apparently GB's first time coming 1st and 2nd in a swimming event since 1908!) |
