Kate Nash: Do Wah Doo
Reviewed by RobBot on 27 March 2010
If you were living in a hole for the majority of 2007, you are excused for not knowing who Kate Nash is. Otherwise, red-headed cockney Kate, full name Kate Marie Nash, should be very familiar to you. Her extremely distinctive cockney accent shone through from the word 'go', as she released debut single 'Foundations' back in June 2007 - peaking at #2, spending five whole weeks at this peak, only to be held off by global phenomonon Rihanna (Umbrella) and Timbaland (The Way I Are). The latter beating Nash by a mere 16 copies. Her album, 'Made Of Bricks' was also a huge success, reaching the #1 spot - also spawning tracks such as 'Mouthwash' and 'Pumpkin Soup'. Whether you liked the woman or not, and despite the obvious Lily Allen comparisons, it would be foolish to say she didn't make her stamp on the music industry. Who thought rhyming 'bitter' and 'fitter' could've worked so well, eh?

So, after working in the studio for a good three years, Nash saw fit to return to our radios and TV screens, with her debut single from forthcoming 2nd album, 'My Best Friend Is You' - the unbelievably catchy, 'Do Wah Doo'. And, just like 'Pumpkin Soup' you will not actually find the lyrics 'Do Wah Doo' in the song itself. She hasn't done a Mika and kept exactly the same sound that helped her become a household name in 2007, although she hasn't moved too far away from the edgy pop sound of earlier years. The track is undoubtedly infectious, and I have a Mum who hates this song, but irritatingly for her, can't get a certain hook at her head. The simple 'bum-ba-dum-bum-bum-ba-dum' hook, may not make for an epic pop record, and it seems that isn't Nash's aim with this song, but it is just a pure good fun, tongue-in-cheek track, that, like it or not, will leave you singing it for the rest of the day, and tomorrow morning, with Kate being Kate though, she does round the song off with 'well, I think she's a bitch'. And, just incase you wanted Nash's dose of bizarre rhyming couplets, 'lady' and 'shady' will have to do you for this song.

One word = infectious
