This is undoubtedly a straight up pop song, but comes littered with punk sensibility. The new single from Lizzie Jane, following up previous EP 'Monster', is edgy, witty and has a way with words - a bit like the artist herself.
The single, from the Lily Allen school of telling it like it is (and with a similar vocal too), is a song that shoots the middle finger at how the music industry expects female songwriters to look and behave. As the song itself says, playing music isn't about making money and getting famous - a focus of so many female artists in the charts right now who are willing to bare their flesh to see records. Each to their own, and if they want to do that, this single isn't going to stop them.
But nor is it going become part of the problem. And good on Lizzie Jane for that.
There is also a launch party at Sound Control in Manchester on the 5th of September tickets are £5 and available from the Sound Control Manchester website
