Justin Bieber is a new pop singer from Ontario, Canada. He was discovered on YouTube by Scooter Braun and signed to Island. One Time is his début single (although another song of his, One Less Lonely Girl, is already available on iTunes), taken off his first studio album My World. One Time charted at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the USA, and its parent album made #6. One Time is released here on
Jan 11*, and My World
a week later on Jan 18, and he is tipped for big things here.
I'd love to say I agree with this, but sadly I don't. To clear up a few things which may confuse listeners on their first listen or the first time they see the music video...
Point 1: Justin Bieber is male.
Point 2: Justin Bieber is 15 years old.
Point 3: Justin Bieber has no direct link with the Disney Channel.
Lyrically, it's pretty awful, with cringey, cheesy lyrics such as "you're my one love, my one heart, my one life for sure". It's also a bit discomforting to hear such a young singer sing "whatever you want shawty I'll give it to you". I really, really hope the public have sense and do not buy this song, but it gives me the vibe that it will be pretty big. I got the same off Taylor Swift's Love Story, so I'm really hoping my gut feeling is wrong this time!
To conclude, it's crap. 1/10
*For unknown reasons, One Time was released to iTunes on Friday 1st January, 2010. So far it's doing okay, not brilliantly thankfully. Shouldn't harm Sidney Samson/Iyaz's chance of #1 next week.
