Calming River: The Ones That We Left Behind
Reviewed by Urbanfairy on 31 Mar 2016
Every so often an artist comes along who takes a well worn genre and makes you listen to it with fresh ears. The acoustic songwriter genre is one of the most saturated genres in music – but with Calming River, it seems somehow fresh.

New EP ‘The Ones That We Left Behind’ is out now and – in spite of the fact that the volume never rises more than a few decibels – it is a tiny powerhouse. The lyrics improve with each listen, the feeling behind them evident in the cracked vocal, while the lovely finger-picked guitar loops, ebbs and flows to fantastic effect. It’s a genuine shame this EP only clocks in at four tracks, as it leaves you wanting so much more.
