Lil Nas X holds on at the top
Lil Nas X gets a second week at the top of the singles chart. The Snuts go to number one with their debut album.

Following this morning’s news, there will be no commentary in its usual form this week. Instead, here is a brief summary of today’s chart.

As expected, Lil Nas X spends a second week at number one with Montero. Justin Bieber’s Peaches climbs to number two, sending Nathan Evans’ Wellerman down to number three. A1 x J1 climb to number four with Latest Trends and Riton’s Friday is at number five.

There are just two new entries. The first, at number 27, is Olivia Rodrigo’s Deja Vu which shows no signs of matching the success of Drivers License. Leeds DJ Tom Zanetti is at number 40 with Didn’t Know.

There was another close battle at the top of the albums chart with the two leading contenders both making an effort to end the week at number one. The eventual winners were Scottish indie rock band Snuts with their debut album W.L. They are the first Scottish band to make their albums chart debut at number one since 2007 (when The View did it) and finish just a few hundred ahead of Demi Lovato’s Dancing With The Devil which gives her a highest ever placing in the albums chart with her seventh album.

Dry Cleaning make it a good week for young British rock bands with their debut album New Long Leg at number four.

Two live albums are among the other new entries. Another David Bowie set recorded at the Kit Kat Club in New York in 1999 is at number twenty. A Bryan Ferry concert recorded just before lockdown in March 2020 is at number eighteen.

Another Scottish band, The Fratellis, enter at number twelve with Half Drunk Under A Full Moon. Rapper Lil Tjay is at number seven with Destined To Win. Canadian rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor (previously known as Godspeed You Black Emperor!) are at number 29 wit G_d’s Pee At State End.

Last week’s number one album, Ben Howard’s Collections From The Whiteout, has crashed right out of the top 100, the second album this year to spend its only chart week at the summit. The same fate has befallen the two other new entries in last week’s top ten from Evanescence and Floating Points.

Lavado (which sounds similar to Lovato) is Spanish for washing. Which makes it apt Demi is in the top 5 of the albums chart with a band called Dry Cleaning!
