The Suedehead Chart Commentary - An Apology

(0 reviews)

Unfortunately, a domestic emergency means that I have been unable to write a Chart Commentary this week. John (popchartfreak) is also unable to provide his usual replacement commentary.

I'm very sorry about this. Normal service will be resumed next week.

In the meantime, congratulations to Sienna Spiro on her first UK number one single.

Well let me give you the lowdown then :

With Great Expectation number one, this makes history as the first young British star to go number one since Becky Hill in 2014 with that massive Gecko tune. Wonder how her new one, “Changes” will follow suit next week. Elsewhere, Dua Lipa shows signs that Training Season will get bigger when millions of manifestations tend to go viral on TikTok, therefore landing her at 7 while Tame Impala is matching an achievement for his Dracula collab with Jennie, landing 2 top 10s, something he couldn’t quite achieve with “The Less I Know The Better”. Slovak superstar ADÉLA rises 14 spots thanks to the incredible number of streams from her PRIMA album (entering at 2). I’m surprised she hasn’t even hit the Big Top 40 yet (alongside Dua, who coincidentally is meant to be at Southbank next month for a Literature festival). Same goes for Ashe with Stop the Wedding which still decided to rise to 16. In addition, Miguel returns at 27 while Natasha Beddingfield climbs to 29. Is this really necessary for songs to go viral more than once? Miley gains the biggest new entry of this week with Bass Persuaders while Alyssa Grace, Malcolm Todd, Sombr and Noah Kahan climb, making at least 3/4 of this list not in the Big Top 40.

As for albums, Kasabian has an 8th number one album, which should’ve included that Calvin Harris track and President, Jamie Webster and Ricky Warwick (of Thin Lizzys) follow suit. Ellie Goulding makes a great return at 16, Dexys Midnight Runners enter at 20, Neighbours Icon, Natalie Imbruglia gains her first chart entry in 5 years (at least we got one of her songs in the top 40). Beyoncé’s revised album, “BDAY” which includes collabs with Pharrell Williams and Maluma enters, Paris Paloma enters for the first time at 30 and Oasis, Evanescence and Bon Jovi enter following their tours

I don’t normally listen to this chart but I do check it often to see what streams could be influenced in the top 40 on Sunday. I do also know that Wretch 32, RAYE, Slipknot, Dannii Minogue, Jamie Miller (today’s guest), James Blunt and a whole host of recurrents await us.

Evanescence's album is actually back in due to the vinyl release.
