UK stars storm Billboard albums chart

Source: Music Week

New albums from Corinne Bailey Rae and Keane have stormed into the US Billboard 200 this week.

Leading the charge was Keane whose second album, Under the Iron Sea, triumphantly entered the chart at number four today while Bailey Rae debuted at number 17 with her eponymous debut album, achieving first week sales of over 40,000.

Speaking from New York where the band will perform on the Regis And Kelly TV show tonight, Keane frontman Tim Rice-Oxley said, “It's incredible news. We're so proud of this record, and it's unbelievably exciting to see it making such a huge impact over here in the states. When we were kids we used to read about The Beatles coming over here, to the land that invented rock'n'roll, and we used to dream of having a hit record in America.â€

Bailey Rae’s US success is the latest chapter in a growing international story for the debut artist that has so far seen the album ship over 1.3m worldwide, and it follows her number one album success in the UK. She will kick off a US tour this week and will next week perform on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
