I have a good feeling about Ireland's national final this year. Although I hate the panel, I do like the changes made.

Russia automatically entering the final would be fair if they were paying the same as the Big 4. How much do they all pay anyway?

No dance contest AGAIN?! :( That suuuuucks. Finland 2007.

Auto Q plz indeed! :(

I can't wait to see what Russia sends. I've always liked their entries, except for 2008 which, IMO, was the worst winner of all time. :( But 2005 was EPIC.

Agree on the first one. :puke: 2005 was horrendous though :(

What?! 2005 was just AMAZE. The lyrics were quite real. I know that sounds stupid, but they were.

Armenia's national final will take place on 14th February.

On Friday, the performers singing their version of the Dutch entry in the national selection will be announced. Any chance of a miracle, and either Eva Simons or Esmee Denters taking part, and then making the song amazing?

And on Thursday, the entries for the online stage of the Portuguese selection will be published.

nothing will make that song good :(

What's the situation with the UK entry this year? I thought Andrew Lloyd Webber was going to do another Your Country Needs You style show.

If all else fails, send a popular UK artist who is well known across Europe. :w00t: Oooh, how about Sugababes? Would be interesting to let Jade try again only this time with a band who have had success in various European countries (albeit with a different line up). Obviously that'll never happen.

I completely agree! :nocheer:

CAN'T WAIT for Portuguese songs! :w00t:

As being the total freak i'm going to listen to all 300+ Spanish songs that have been published online, already heard several. Some are fantastic!
Jealous 'Cause I Love You is easily my favourite Norwegian song of the first 14 - can't believe it didn't go straight to the final - pure pop songs always seem to struggle in these types of things against the 'more unique sounds' which is fine, I'm all for originality, except if they're awful (a la Matti Matt - Out Of Sight in Iceland's final) but Venke's song is an EXCELLENT pop song which should have eased to the final...

It is good, but then again the manner of stage presentation and how she sings the song might give the impression of a slight p*** take to some, or at the very least, of the song being a bit too light and frothy. This could have put some off.

As well as the Coral song Tom posted a few pages back, here are a few other songs doing well in the Spanish voting at the moment. It looks like quite a good bunch.

Venus - Perfecta

Venus are as far as I'm aware, a girl group made up of former X Factor contestants. Not the most original idea (Serebro, EMD), or the most original song, but it's very catchy and would certainly be a contemporary choice to represent Spain for a change.

José Galisteo - Beautiful Life

This might have already been posted as it was quite early to leak, but nevertheless, I like it so I'm mentioning it! I think this could do quite well for Spain, even though it's quite generic and uses a little more English than they might be comfortable with. It's just about clinging onto the top ten at the moment.

Samuel y Patricia - Recuérdame

This is one of my favourites. It would do nothing at Eurovision but it's a very pleasant listen. This is a bit like a ballad / rom-com / Radio 2 version of "One Love" from Melodifestivalen a couple of years ago. Sorry to single people out, but I'm going to predict Rich will like this :)

The Spanish selection is sometimes overlooked, even though the general quality of the songs tends to be quite good. With 300 songs on there you're bound to find a gem if you look hard enough. These three are just from the top ten. Of course perhaps a reason the Spanish selections aren't given much time of day in the Eurovision community is because of songs like this, which is currently leading the vote by a country mile...

Remember, everybody, anywhere can vote in the Spanish internet selection, so vote wisely!!

I think there will be another YCNY show, but ALW won't be doing it. There is a banner on the BBC's Eurovision website saying "2009: Jade & Andrew Lloyd Webber 2010: ?", and I think there should be an official announcement with a week.

Oh, and I think a band like The Saturdays, Noisettes or Girls Can't Catch would be good, and possible. They are known and popular, but they aren't massive. Take Girls Aloud for example, they are known and popular, but they wouldn't do ESC because they are (arguably) massive. Been around since about 2002, had about 20(?) top 10 hits, and one member is a judge on one of the biggest TV shows in the UK at the moment.

I expect we'll see another unknown representing us this year, as opposed to a has been

it's quite nice, nothing amazing for me though...

I never follow the Spanish selection, I really can't even remember the last time they sent a song I truly loved, in fact I don't think they ever have :/

Argh I don't know what's wrong with me! Every time I vocally predict that you will like something, you don't! :P

And the Spanish entries never tend to be that good, but I can't remember the last time there wasn't an excellent song in their national selection that could have done very well for them. The low quality of their entries has more to do with TVE's lack of commitment to the competition and the public's low regard for it and terrible choices.

Popularity isn't the main issue though. I don't think it would be possible, as they all have deals with major record labels, which is a huge stumbling block for Eurovision in the UK. I would say a fair few popular artists wouldn't mind doing Eurovision but are contractually held back.

:heehee: it's not that I didn't like it, it was pretty good but I wouldn't rush back to listen to it - it didn't grab me in any way

I completely agree with you - TVE need to do an internal selection or something, leaving it to the public to decide on the internet, with 300 songs available is a dangerous game, because if there are 50 great pop songs, and 1 novelty song, the novelty song will stand out the most and voters will flock to it whilst serious voters spread their votes evenly to the great pop songs, diluting their chances

What about the record label which signed Jade...I know that was part of the deal of winning YCNY, the contract was included. Would that label let their other acts do it?

Sorry, can't actually remember which record label it was.
