Not the most inspiring selection ever, The One whilst I like it, is far too predictable and dated a ballad to do well in ESC, Out Of Sight is diabolical and wouldn't get to the final, One More Day is pretty good - not sure if it would do that well at ESC though, Gleði Og Glens is charming and I can't tell how it would do in ESC as it's traditional folk mixed with indie rock  Waterslide is awful and would fail to qualify for the final, Je Ne Sais Quoi is great but is the most generic Europop by numbers song I've heard since Hero, hence would probably flop if it even reached the final, or it could do a Kate Ryan but I'm guessing the juries would prevent it from missing the final. I think Hera has this sewn up anyway, it's so much more powerful and she's a much bigger star than the others - but don't expect to see Iceland in the top ten again this year  :( The final will be on Feb 6th hosted by you know who :D

Why is Voldemort hosting the final, when he didn't host the heats? :P

you'll have to wait a week, Iceland are having a one week break, just to ensure that their final is screened at the same time as the MGP final and the first semi of Melodifestivalen

:nocheer:

what do I watch? the greatest show in music television, the greatest presenters in the history of international television or Maria/Mira and A1 :drama:

You what? First semi-final of MF is on the same night as the MGP final? I thought I had it all worked out...MGP second-chance of 30th January, final on 6th February. MF four semi-final's, 13th, 20th, 27th of February and 6th March. Second-chance on 13th March. Final on 20th March, with Eurovision entries having to be officially submitted to the EBU on 22nd March. Where did I go wrong? :drama:

Just checked wikipedia....final is a week earlier than I expected :( Does this mean Sweden might not be the last country to select their entry, this year?
the MF final had better be on the 13th or else I've booked all of the wrong flights and hotels :smoke: it's exactly the same as last year, exactly 52 weeks later - the final was on the 14th March in 2009
:o That happened to me and my Dad, we booked tickets to a MotoGP race and booked the hotel and everything (we were even going to rent a helicopter :P) and then they changed the dates of the race :drama:.

Well I thought Sweden always had the final the Saturday before entries need to be submitted to the EBU, which is 22nd March this year since the Eurovision final isn't until May 29th. But it seems not....now I've gotta choose between MGP, MF & DMGP on 6th February. Not watched the Icelandic selection so far so I won't start now...will probably go with MGP, since I'll have already watched the first stages.

no way - the Danish one's one at the same time too? :drama: sod it all, I'll go with MF and catch up with the others at a later time

I'll miss Eva and Ragnhildur though :snif:

I'll go with the one which stream will be working better and i will actually be able to watch it properly :(

won't be Norway then :(

Iceland's live stream has failed to be anything less than perfect and high quality for me so far :o they can afford this yet they can't afford decent lighting for the studio...

I read in an interview with Hera Bjork today that pyrotechnics aren't allowed in Iceland, only on New Year's Eve, hence the rather muted seeming performances when compared to something like MF where it would be odd if a song such as Je Ne Sais Quoi didn't have pyrotechnics throughout the performance, or at least at the key change!

I've just been working out prices. The cheapest hotel on offer, for a single room, I think would be about £100, including breakfast, for one night (I've been working it out for arriving on the day of the final and leaving on the Sunday). Return flight to somewhere near Oslo (from Birmingham, I did this) is about £160. Then you've got to pay for tickets, transport to and from the airports, any other meals.

Anyone planning on going? After working that out, I'm not :P

just bought a new car today - a very flashy one too :o

so no, I can't afford to go to Oslo now :( it would cost me somewhere in the region of £500-£700 at least I reckon, spending money included considering how expensive it is there, and I really can't justify it right now :snif: I'd already booked and paid for MF a while back so it's slightly different - maybe if they'd put the ESC tickets on sale much earlier I would have gone there instead of MF...

oh, and the hotel room prices will obviously be bumped up specially for the duration of the event :heehee:

Would they make an exception if they were to host Eurovision?

And is Norway's stream stopping and starting all the time for everyone? My computer had been running slow, and I thought that might be it, and now my computer is running faster again, I thought I may be able to watch the next two shows live. Watching it after it's finished, the stream works perfect

I'm going :kink:

I only have to buy train tickets and ESC tickets :kink: I got a place and food for free :kink:

BREAKING NEWS

Tomorrow, Friday 29th January 2009, is my friend's birthday.

Oh, and as well as that, the BBC (the broadcaster of Eurovision in the UK) will reveal the name of the invited composer and details of the song selection.

It's really just started dawning on me recently...what is the point in having a Eurovision forum if everything is going to be in one thread?

With all the different national finals and bits of news this forum should really be buzzing with different discussions, which I suppose it is, but when you see threads that haven't been touched since the beginning of December on the first page, it doesn't really seem that way.

This thread is going to an end anyway so i think it's better to start bumping all those national final threads without creating the second volume of this one indeed.

That's true, I'm going to have to close it now because it's getting to that point where it will might crash the servers for being to big. No need to create a second volume Pavel I agree, it's better to separate all of the discussion out, it's less confusing, easier to reference keep track of that way

feel free to create separate threads, one for each country though :D
