Posted October 4, 200915 yr Twain to carry Olympic torch through hometown ahead of Vancouver Olympics Shania Twain, Canada's gift to country music, will carry the Olympic Flame through her hometown of Timmins, Ontario, it was announced today by the city of Timmins and the Shania Twain Centre. On the first of the year 2010, Twain will be the final runner of the torch through the western Ontario town. "It's an immense honor for me to have been given the opportunity to be an Olympic Torch Bearer of the 2010 winter Olympics being held in my birth country of Canada in Vancouver, as it takes its journey through my home town of Timmins," Twain said in a statement released by the Centre. "It is certain to be one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I am proud to have been presented this unique opportunity and privilege and look forward to sharing the pride with my hometown and fellow Canadians as we are all proud of our country's chance to host the upcoming winter games. "I am grateful for this special gift of participation in carrying the flame that represents such an incredible spirit of sportsmanship and excellence and wish all the athletes of the 2010 Winter Olympics courage, strength and triumph during the Games." Twain's participation in the Olympic Torch run raises speculation that she may participate in the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver Olympics. Twain is the best selling female country artist in the United States.
