October 7, 200915 yr Jay Sean is the first solo male UK R&B act to hit the top of BBH100 right? Billy Ocean did it twice back in the 80's....
October 7, 200915 yr It's not the fact it's generic R&B or something, it's the fact he's the first British male in a while (probably ever ) to reach the Top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. AMAZING for him! to name but a few British male artists who reached number 1 in the US :w00t: : Elton John, Rod Stewart, George Michael,Phil Collins, James Blunt, Billy Ocean, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Steve Winwood... and the list could go on forever... but Jay Sean is the first male Brit to reach number 1 in the US since James Blunt 3 years ago almost.
October 8, 200915 yr i can't believe only four british artists (Blunt, Leona Lewis, Coldplay and now Jay Sean) have topped the Hot 100 this whole DECADE. Edited October 8, 200915 yr by ....: Luis :....
October 8, 200915 yr Are you guys serious? I mean, you're acting as if a British act NEVER reached number 1 in the US. Coldplay did it with "Viva la Vida". Leona Lewis did it with "Bleeding Love". James Blunt with "You're Beautiful". Natasha Bedignfield, Amy Winehouse, Corine Bailey-Rae and Lily Allen had successful songs and album sales over there. All of those in the last few years. Who CARES if Jay Sean reached number 1 with a song that was made ESPECIALLY for the US market? (which wasn't the case with any of the artists I mentioned before". There was a HUGE period of time no UK act had success in the US. This period is over. For the last 5 years, a few UK artists were able to crossover. Jay Sean reaching number 1 (again, with a song especially designed for the US market and produced by US producers and released by a US company) is nothing to write home about. October 8, 200915 yr Author Re: Jay Sean at #1 This was (most likely) his only chance to do it, so I'm pleased for him.
