7. Ojnoj - Keri Hilson, Kanye West & Ne-Yo - Knock You Down (BJSCXV)

XV was always going to be amazing with those two stunning front runners, but what I didn't expect was to find something else that I loved just as much somewhere else in the pack. Keri Hilson, somebody who I'd never been overly interested in, with Kanye West and Ne-Yo who were both a bit hit and miss for me doing a collaboration...I wasn't over enthused about the prospect of it but listened with an open mind...and got blown away. Amazing urban song that rightfully gave Ojnoj their maiden top ten hit, and has swiftly become one of my favourite songs of the year...I don't exactly think of it as a BJSC song these days, but still, it's only fair that it appears here, this was where I first heard it after all!

GORGEOUS numero diez.
was this the contest you forgot to participate in :drama:

I did not forget. BuzzJack went down and I was unable to confirm... It is very strange having so many songs popping up which I have not heard before.

you should console yourself with a listen to the entire XIX final  was an amazing contest!

6. Numayania - Alcazar - We Keep On Rockin' (BJSCXIV)

Now I'm not going to pretend that I was ever fussed with Alcazar before I heard this song, but then I did hear it and it changed my attitude to them completely  I awarded Numayania the 12, I became obsessed with everything Alcazar for at least 4 months and I can't believe that this only finished 11th! I like to pretend it finished 4th though, because that's where it would have been if you took out all of the uber-cheap/release schedule/current chart songs of XIV out of the running! Uh Huh Her, Velvet, Marie-Mai, Alcazar, Amanda Jenssen...what a lovely top 5 that would have been :kink: Stay The Night is of course far better but doesn't feature here because surprisingly enough, I'd heard the song before it was entered to BJSC six months after its release :heehee:

Silly Boy doesn't feature in here...I got caught up in the hype enough to give it 3 points (I think) but it got old quickly...I expect it will convincingly triumph in the Best Of though, such was the nature of its win :o

5. Nonsuch - Nerina Pallot - When Did I Become Such A Bitch (BJSCXIII)

Hyped up by Nonsuch as a future #1/top ten hit etc...it features on Nerina's new album this week, languishing in the top 50 in the mids and hardly likely to spawn any singles likely to chart in the top 75...that aside, one of the most self hyped songs the contest has ever seen very very nearly lived up to the hype in my eyes, and reminded me why Nerina was and still is one of my favourite artists. A deserved top ten finish for a song that really should have been the comeback single over the pleasant but unremarkable Real Late Starter...I believe I only gave this a 10 as it was in the same contest as Release Me...shame...I particularly enjoyed Rich's Sharon Osbourne/Kerry Katona slating video for the song

4. Land of Jack - NENA & Kim Wilde - Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime (BJSCXII)

Quicksand missed out on the Rontvian 12 in XII to potentially the most underrated song ever sent to the BJSC...Now in 2003 I was so preoccupied with exams and starting college/my job that I completely forgot to listen to this song, depsite being aware of its existence. Finally after five years in 2008, I got the chance to hear it when Land of Jack saw it as a worthy BJSC entry! An absolutely BRILLIANT electro-pop stormer in crossover English/German, it became an unlikely feature of my Christmas top ten last year and is one of my top 50 most listened to songs of recent years apparently! Just brilliant, 15th was a complete injustice in my opinion...

3. Kingdom Of Shadow - Margaret Berger - Will You Remember Me Tomorrow (BJSCIX)

A new #1 this year, sorry Tom :snif: Dame Margaret falls from her perch of greatness despite this still being THE OFFICIAL DEFINING GUIDE TO WINNING THE BJSC  a #13 hit in her native Norway apparently, there better have been 12 life changingly good songs above it that week :smoke:

what can I say about this song that hasn't already been said? the statistics/accolades/universal praise speak for themselves

now, Kopecka, Mdice, Kingdom of Shadow, Ashton etc... have all made multiple appearances in this chart but what of the top two?

I feel like a certain country has been forgotten...

Dame Maggie got to 14 on airplay alone - It was never released as a physical single ;-)

...over to Kath for the top two then, as I finally realise what I've been missing out on all these years by completely ignoring South African music...Kath has gone a lot more alternative now, for better (Eva) or worse (the unlistenable song from this month)...but I long for a return to these days as I'm not likely to hear SA music anywhere else...so;

2. Kathaldazia - Jamali - Secrets (BJSCXI)

The GREATEST DNQ of all time, were people quite literally listening to a different song to me? Absolutely stunning melody, gorgeous vocals, brilliant chorus, perhaps the rent-a-rapper spoils the mood a bit, but it's a small price to pay and never bothers me...Secrets is one of my ten most played songs of the last two years. Stunning pop song

1. Kathaldazia - Jody - Wind It (BJSCXV)

Have you ever heard Jody's Wind It asked Kath at some point early on in the year...no I said, and forgot all about it...until I started actively looking for it and eventually stumbled across it and uploaded it to youtube...of course I wanted to send it but I didn't snap it up for myself, but gave first refusal to Kath, who had of course enlightened me of the song's existence in the first place so it was only fair and courteous. She said yes of course, and in turn presented the new 'Ultimate BJSC entry'. Original, excellent, unknown, universal appeal etc...I was a bit torn seeing as the completely stunning The Girl & The Robot was in the same contest, but ultimately originality won out and seeing as I like both songs about the same amount, I gave the 12 to Kathaldazia, my most worthy 12 to date in BJSC in the best contest to date (although VII comes close)...this song is perfect in every way, one of my favourite songs of the year and without a doubt my favourite BJSC discovery to date

THANK YOU KATH :D
