been re-listening to all of these today and I only like three of the songs out of the eight :(

Pauline - Sucker For Love - is growing but still lacking something to make it really special - can't see it getting out of Second Chance, Underbart and Road Salt will be the favourites so far, it just doesn't feel like a finalist

Andreas Johnson - We Can Work It Out - his weakest MF entry to date but still pretty good and probably a grower, I expect it will finish 9th or 10th in the final though...

Eric Saade - Manboy - will probably go top five in the final, but Darin and Ola could seriously weaken his voting base so I'll predict that it will finish 5th...this was easily the best song in the second semi though

the other five were either dire, bland or generic, first semi was much better, this one was rather overhyped  Salem has it in the bag so far surely music wise and in terms of originality and appealing to a wide range of people...I fully expect the winner to come from either semi 3 or 4 though, Darin or Peter Joback to be precise...

I should probably take more interest in the Melodifestivalen shenanigans as i seem to love Swedish Pop

(Darin and Danny in my top 10 artists on Last.fm, whilst "Hero" and "Stay The Night" being ridiculously high on my Itunes!)

Do we know yet what Darin is singing, and what its like? I will gasm if he gets through to the ESC! ^_^

Ola Lindman: Hey all children, it's Melodifestivalen, Now are we going to compete

Charlotte Perrelli: Yeah? How cool

Ola Lindman: I'm Ola

Charlotte Perrelli: God, how cool, really

Ola Lindman: And this is Charlotte

Charlotte Perrelli: God, how cool, how funny

Peter Settman: And this is Peter Settman

Charlotte Perrelli: but god that's cool

Peter Settman: And I'm going to do as I usally do, guide you through this contest on my own unique way, nice and with coolness (Two things he said I couldn't really translate)

Charlotte Perrelli: but god how nice

This week's clips: http://svt.se/2.123450/1.1870490/tjuvlyssn...amp;lpos=lasMer

Alcazar is Burning meets Release Me. Not another stay the night, but sounds like a great song, though I can't see it going til finalen :(

Johannes is kind of Take That-alike, a big pop-rock ballad, though not 100% my thing.

Elin really sound like something else, can't put my finger on it, but it's quite good, in an electro-rock way, not much of a dance element.

Is it me or does Erik really look like Basshunter with Zack Effron hair? Another mid-tempo pop-rocker, but Johannes is better.

will listen to the clips now, I'm watching ESC 2000 at the moment funnily enough - bought 1996-2003 contests on DVD from eBay!

Oh nice, I need to do that sometime, never actually saw 2002 :o

Getty is better than I expected, don't get the French feeling that it was said to have, but a nice euro-Afro sound.

Timoteij is great  I think it's destined for fifth place, but I love the middle eastern sound mixed with the Swedish lyrics.

The Darin song is really boring tbh. Like a one-person No Air without the hook. I expect he'll go through on the screaming girl vote tho.

Crucified Barbara is OK, a bit Vanilla Ninja. Not really my thing tbh, but I can see it doing well, and I expect you'll love it Rich :kink:

What I want then, Alcazar and Elin till finalen, Timoteij and Getty till andra chansen. What I expect, Darin and Crucified Barbara till finalen, and Alcazar and Elin till finalen, or maybe one of the boys (Johannes/Erik).

Alcazar - Headlines - I see what you mean Tom, it's definitely more Burning than Stay The Night but I love the strings in it. For now, though it seems lacking something, from the clip anyway. 9/10

Johannes Bah Kunke - Tonight - This ballad sounds really promising actually, looking forward to hearing this in full. 8.5/10

Elin Lanto - Doctor Doctor - Not what I was expecting from Elin, but still infectious and catchy. Think this could be good in full too. 9/10

Erik Linder - Hur Kan Jag Tro På Kärlek - Sounds ok, quite forgettable but well produced at least! 7/10

Getty Domein - Yeba - er...ok then. An African sounding song, it's certainly different - I'm starting to miss the traditional schalger now  :( Not my sort of thing but tuneful. 5/10

Timoteij - Kom - this is great, I have high hopes for this in full, love the intro and Eastern elements, yet it very much keeps a Swedish pop feel to it as well. 9/10

Darin - You're Out Of My Life - A quite dark sounding ballad from Darin :o he could quite honestly send anything at all and go straight through to the final, and this is good anyway. It's a bit Ryan Tedder-ish in the chorus production. Not a Eurovision winner by any stretch of the imagination and I know they've got their hopes pinned on Darin  need to hear more of it though. 8.5/10

Crucified Barbara - Heaven Or Hell - rocky girlband, pretty good actually, quite a strong melody. No Cool Vibes though :kink: 8/10

VERY promising semi, can't wait to hear Alcazar, Elin, Timoteij, Darin and Johannes in full! Hopefully the other three will go out first, although Crucified Barbara could be good too! It will definitely be a tough battle - I can only see Getty and possibly Erik definitely having no chance - the other six all do.

Erik is very popular in Sweden at the moment, he's their "got talent" winner apparently. I'm not fussed on the song but it'll do better than it should.

Ah right, so apparently every song has a chance this week! Definitely sounds like the strongest semi so far, much better than the train wreck of last week. I won't see semi 4 next Saturday as I'll be going GaGa in London :w00t: hope I'll be able to get the songs from somewhere though!

Alcazar - The strings give the impression of it building up to more than it does. A bit underwhelmed by the chorus, although I'd like them to qualify even though this probably doesn't deserve to.

Johannes - The clip sounds like the end of the song so I doubt there will be many surprised on this one. Sounded promising but it's incredibly repetitive, and I'm very disappointed considering who it's written by.

Elin Lanto - Fun and catchy. Would be a good antidote to the all male final so far.

Erik - Pleasant to listen to, and I'd say the Swedes will appreciate the song more than we do. He could get votes based on who he is as well.

Getty - Not fussed on this one really. I take it Hippare Hoppare didn't count as the token ethnic tune this year. Couldn't be less Swedish and will finish in the bottom 3.

Timoteij - This is quite catchy, and it would be nice to have in the final for a bit of variety, although it's a bit frothy for me, and I'll hold back on forming a proper opinion until I hear them live.

Darin - Going on what I'd heard about this in the last couple of days I wasn't expecting much but I really like this. It's dramatic but in a contemporary way not a camp schlager way! My favourite in the semi and it's sailing into the final.

Crucified Barbara - I also quite like this one but I can't quite warm to girl rock bands. Has 5th place written all over it.

I'd say the studio versions will have leaked within a day or two of Heat 4.

And upon reflection I quite liked the last heat! Loving Andreas' song, and liking Erik's as it is catchy despite the fact it's cringeworthily ridiculous. I don't mind the 2 AC songs but I'd rather have had Anna Maria (whose song I thought was quite charming) and Come and Get Me Now (which I've been singing to myself all week!)

Only Hippare Hoppare was a real disappointment for me last week, although I'm pretty indifferent to Manipulated and the folksy Swedish one.

Andreas' song is my favourite of that semi now, it's a massive grower - it genuinely does sound a lot better with every listen. Manboy is great but utterly disposable. Pauline's song was 'pretty good', I didn't like Underbart or Hippare Hoppare, Manipulated was completely average, Come and Get Me Now is catchy but quite weak and I can't remember anything about Anna Maria's song, and this is after about 9 or 10 listens to the track.

Still though, at this moment in time Salem Al Fakir's song seriously tramples over everything else I've heard form this year's selection...

Same here. My ranking of the finalists so far would be:

1. Salem

2. Andreas

3. Ola

4. Erik

Although I don't dislike any of them. Going on the assumption that one song out of the first four AC competitors makes the final, I'd like it to be Pauline. I would say Pain of Salvation if it weren't for the male bias so far.

  • Author

my ranking would be exactly the same, love all four though :D Sweden nearly always pick the right songs for the final (thank goodness!)

out of the Andra Chansen songs, Jessica Andersson's song has really grown on me now actually and it would be nice to see a female ballad in the final. I prefer Pain of Salvation over Pauline and Underbart is still not at all to my taste :( something tells me that whoever out of semi 3 ends up in AC will have a huge chance of going to the final though, such is the quality of the semi.

1. Salem

2. Ola

3. Erik

4. Andreas

for me.

1. 'Underbart'

2. Pauline

3. Pain Of Salvation

4. Jessica

Salem completely blows everyone with Walking On Air. I'm pretty certain it stays on top of my list no matter what songs are in Semi 3 & 4. :o

*Keep On Walking :kink:

It would be such a different sort of entry for Sweden too, I really think the juries would like it a lot - not sure how the public would take to it but we all love it so it must be a good sign! It's irrelevant anyway as they're bound to pick Peter Joback or Darin, but then I said the same last year about E.M.D. and Mans Zelmerlow and they both lost out to much lesser known singers with better songs :P COME ON SALEM :w00t:

Alcazar - AMAZING. Obviously far too schlagertastic to ever stand a chance of doing well at the ESC (but just watch when it comes 9th in XXIX :kink:), but I reckon it'll go to the final and come 5th. As always.

Johannes - Starts off a bit Jonsi, then goes Aerosmith - Don't Wanna Miss A Thing if it was covered by Take That. Pretty good, but wouldn't do much at the ESC.

Elin Lanto - This reminds me melody-wise a LOT of I Kissed A Girl in the chorus (and I like how it rips off those tinkly synths from So What at the end of the chorus ). This could actually do pretty well at the ESC if it had a draw late on...but then, as a song which sounds like 2008 pop mixed with some 80s synth guitars, it would be the most modern thing through thus far -_- (Assuming Foxy Federation don't go through for Malta)

Erik - His face TERRIFIES me. The song's pretty boring as well.

Getty - ODD AS. No idea what he hopes from this, this wouldn't do a thing in Oslo.

Timoteij - Aside from sounding like a Swedish shampoo, this could actually do a lot! Doesn't sound particularly dated, sounds pretty Eurovision friendly (for east and west) - if Sweden sent this (translated into English...) they could get their best result since 2006 I reckon!

Darin - Boring. Will be shooed through til finalen by a bevy of screeching teenage girls though.

Crucified Barbara - Has nothing on Vanilla Ninja. Would get a Hanna Pakarinen-style result though if sent.

I'd hope for Timoteij and Elin TF and Alcazar and either Johannes or Crucified Barbara AC, but reckon it'll probably be Timoteij and Darin til finalen and Alcazar and Elin AC...
