OK so Melfest hasn't been great, and Timotej have a good song, and it does say something that they won the semi (even though the non-controversy in Swedish papers this week about the strong chance of an all male final might have had a little to do with it), but it does not have ESC winner written on it.

What makes Timotej on such a level above Treble, No Angels, Femminem, and all the other flop frothy pop girl groups at ESC? The good song? OK it's catchy, a cut above most Melfest songs from this year, but it really is slap bang in the midde of mid-noughties Eurovision territory. Maybe it will help them to qualify for the final where Non Stop, Neiokoso and Suntribe didn't, but I can't see it going much further.

Especially with the gimmicky instruments...the difference between them and Alexander Rybak is that you can actually hear his violin on the track!

The fact that it's instantly memorable and I've been dying to hear it in full since the one minute clip yesterday. Amanbanda was awful, Disappear was generic radio pop performed diabolically and Call Me just didn't ring true at all - why were Bosnia/Herzegovina sending a 1999 Swedish schlager anthem to the contest six years too late? and as for being mid-noughties Eurovision territory, you have to go a lot further back in ESC history to find out where Denmark and Iceland's entries would fit in to the musical landscape

Whilst it is a bit early to dismiss the entirety of the competition, I'm definitely seeing a trend so far this year towards safe male MOR amongst most of the countries which I reckon will help Timoteij stand out (much like Marija did in 2007 as the only proper female ballad). It's got a distinct ethnic/folky twist which I reckon lifts it out of the frothy flop-pop category with No Angels and all that, but still remains catchy and poppy enough without detracting from jury sensibilities. I'm pretty certain this will win if it wins Melodifestivalen. I think its beauty is in that it's effortlessly merged the successful sound of the mid-noughties with a Rybak-esque ethnopop twist :o

Yeah, and all of this

Well I don't think they stand a hope in hell either, what's your point? :P

That most of this year's entries seem to have regressed in terms of musical development, I'd guess? :P

that nothing remotely contemporary has yet been confirmed for the contest anyway, so Sweden will hardly sound that out of place if they send Timoteij

I don't claim to have a crystal ball so I won't make any predictions of my own at this stage but I almost hope that they win Melfest because I really think those getting a strong ESC winner vibe from it are so so wrong!

That and I do actually like the song! But I don't think we've heard anything even touching ESC winner territory in MF yet (Salem could come top ten I suppose), and we're running out of time!

I'm going insane! I can't remember the last time I was so excited to hear a song again :o I need an mp3 desperately.

Backseat's run at #1 will be short lived it seems :heehee:

I almost forgot - Sibel's on next week :D with an upbeat song no less! I thought she only did ballads and slightly slower than mid-tempo's! Could be good

I know that feeling far too well...

all I want is a 320kbs version of Backseat - in stereo - not ripped via Audacity and then recoded into 320kbs like the one floating around the internet. The only place in the world that it's available? Sweden and Norway iTunes :nocheer: so short of begging Jerick/Freeze to download it and send it to me, I shall be purchasing an iTunes gift card for Sweden when I'm there, and download it when I get back!

I don't think even Kom is available on any iTunes at all

it won't be until after the 4th semi...I expect Elin Lanto will pop up on iTunes any time now though, along with Getty, Erik and Johannes

We will have mp3's of the lost semifinalists as always soon. Can't wait to hear Yeba's studio version :w00t:

I refuse to believe that there aren't people standing by to try and rip mp3s from the live performances. I refuse to believe that there aren't people standing by to try and rip mp3s from the live performances. WHERE ARE THEY WHEN I NEED THEM.
