Rubbish, that being #1 proves that any old crap can sell by name.

so how come other big names such as Madonna or Mariah couldn't sell enough to go straight to #1? :P

Madonna isn't really a force to be reckoned with in the US anymore and hasn't been for some years now, Mariah's song was generic and dated, probably would have done better in 2004/2005 (not to mention her last era was a car crash).

I really don't think the majority of those 250k downloads where bought just cause of the fact it was Britney.

But maybe that's just me?

People like the song because it's very sound specific...the kind of sound that people are liking right now ("In the Ayer", "I gotta Feeling", "Just Dance", "Sexy Chick", etc, etc). The fact that Britney is a high-profile name right now just helps the song.

I have liked my share fo Britney songs, but this one is quite poor.

yeh it was instantly great but now the effect has worn off for me and its gotten very boring very quick

It's because thier songs are a load of crap TBH. 3, although quite generic, is a great song. And it's selling well and debuting at number one- so ALOT of people agree.
