Posted October 16, 200915 yr http://www.whatsonstage.com/news/theatre/l...+New+Voice.html Take That’s Mark Owen has specially written a new song for the first major revival of Jim Cartwright’s Olivier Award-winning black comedy The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which has been previewing since 8 October and opens on 20 October 2009 at the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre (See News, 9 Jul 2009). The song, entitled “Sunlight” and co-written by Jamie Norton and Ben Mark, is the final song sung by X Factor finalist Diana Vickers, who makes her stage debut in Terry Johnson’s production. According to publicity, Vickers’ performance of the new song has been receiving standing ovations as long as eight minutes. I am happy about this news, it is exactly what i hope Mark would do more. I am not so sure about Diana, but if it is for theater it is exactly what i was dreaming for Mark, as he can write very dramatic songs. Hope the song is better as those from Britannia High (those whre he was cowriter, i love only one), but here he writes with Ben Mark and Jamie Norton, and i like both as songwriters.
October 16, 200915 yr This is great news and great for mark as it will will him develop himself even further, and this line of work is what i can see mark doing much more of and maybe in the future him and gary will end up a song writing machine which would be great.
October 16, 200915 yr Author I hope he and Gary will write an original West End musical only with new songs and with a good story (not like BH).
October 16, 200915 yr I hope he and Gary will write an original West End musical only with new songs and with a good story (not like BH). I don't want to even think about Britannia High! Some of the songs were OK (not brilliant) but the show was just dreadful. Norma
October 16, 200915 yr Author double pst - the forum works today very funny for me! Edited October 16, 200915 yr by IrisAlbastru
October 16, 200915 yr Author I bought myself the first season of Fame. What a differeence in quality! Not that the songs were better - they were the average songs to be expected in a TV serie. But the characters were alive, the text and story were good. Such a pity that BH was such a disspointing....I liked two-three songs very much, but the texts were laizy and bad written. The characters didn't developed and the stories were clishee. I hope Gary will choose next time better the team to work with! I am very excited now to hear the song. I hope Diana got a vocal coach to fix the problems in her voice - i dont think that West End gives such a role to someone weak, but she didn't impressed me the last year on X factor. October 16, 200915 yr I liked Diana on x factor and i liked her voice and i really enjoyed the week she sanh patience, although she wasnt my fave she is in my top 5 faves from last year, now how i would love if gary or mark were to work with Ruth Lorenzo from last year i would be delighted as i loved Ruth.
October 16, 200915 yr Author Oh, i also loved Ruth and i can hardly wait to hear her songs! But i doubt she will take the pop-way, more some rock for her. So, i doubt she will go for a song to Gary or Mark (ok, Mark can write rock song who will suit her voice and style, but i doubt she knows that).
October 17, 200915 yr Back to Little Voice - I've only seen the film and I have to say it was a huge disappointment to me - especially as the guy who directed it had directed the brilliant 'Brassed Off' (Mark Herman - he went to Leeds Poly Film Unit - the same as me - but he was in the third year while I was in the first). I've always intended going to see the play as I'd heard the staged version was / is brilliant. I may go at some point now. Good cast there ... but I'm unsure of Diane Vickers too ... she's no Jane Horrocks. Norma
October 17, 200915 yr Author I think if Diana is not good enough, they woudn't take it. It is not like West End makes presents to ex X-factors. So, this is my only hope. I am happy that Mark is writing for someone, i am sad that is Diana (judging only on her Xfactor), but Mark has not like Gary the chance to choose between the best and in-singers, his offers are limited so i hope for him it will go well to raise his profile as a songwriter. As far as i know, Mark wrote earlier also for theater, but for some experimental ones, so it is not known or to find to hear it. Even the information about it is hard to find to be completly sure.
