Kelly Rowland 'in talks for new LP'

Friday, October 23 2009, 20:13 BST

By Oli Simpson

Kelly Rowland has been in talks with EMI about releasing a new record in 2010.

The ex-Destiny's Child star split with manager Mathew Knowles in January and was dropped by Columbia Records in March.

However, Angry Ape quotes singer-producer Rico Love as saying: "She's in the process of closing a pretty big deal. I believe she's doing her deal right now.

"I don't think she's going to say yet. She's got the number one song in the world with David Guetta [called] 'When Love Takes Over'."

Love added: "I'm actually going to be doing the majority of her record. I believe we're going to finish the album over the Christmas break."

Rowland recently denied that Destiny's Child are reuniting for a comeback tour next year.

From an interview with Rico love (source: thatgrapejuice.net)

Rico: I know she’s working out her situation and like I said, she wants to make that a surprise for her fans and make the big announcement; but whatever is going on is going to be a big situation. She just wants to make sure that she gets the best situation (and team) that’s going to promote and market her to the best of their ability.

They (her new team) just weighing out their options and making sure everything is right; everything they want to happen is going to happen. She’s a megastar; she’s a Grammy Award-winning singer; she was in the biggest female group of all time; her team are making sure she and her new project are treated in a way which reflects that

Tiffany Evans has been tweeting like crazy about a song which she worked with Kelly on that's now been finished. Apparently the song is brilliant and the forthcoming album is going to be as brilliant. Quite exciting, hopefuly we hear a leak soon!

^ Looking fit. Thanks for posting. This is definitely going to be her year, David Guetta even agrees with me. Said it in a recent interview. And with him on production I don't see how she won't smash. Just as long as we have a bit of old and new school Kelly on the album I'll be pleased

This is going to be mind blowing. :D

So excited for this, easily my favourite DC solo girl! Really hope she manages to find success this time round too, she's so underrated.
Kelly has been consistently good single-wise imo (except for that tripe 'Like This') but has never got anywhere near the success of Beyoncé which confuses me because she makes such good music. I definitely think she should be gearing her music towards the 'Work' and 'When Love Takes Over' vibe - she'll absolutely smash it in Europe if so. Chasing US hiphop lovers hasn't done her a lot of good in the past.
Exited about this :) Looks like she's working with a lot of exiting producers so hopefully she can be huge this time round.
I've always been a fan of Kelly's material so can't wait for this, looks like she's working with some great producers! :o

Kelly Rowland has been hard at work preparing for the debut of her new album. In a recent interview with Rap-Up.com, producer Jim Jonsin has provided some details about the yet entitled record which features contributions from Nelly, Rico Love, Jonsin and David Guetta. Here is an excerpt from the interview below:

“I’ve been working on her album with [songwriter] Rico Love,” Jonsin tells Rap-Up.com. “We’ve done four songs.”

Fans of her David Guetta collaboration, ‘When Love Takes Over’ will be in for a treat. “She’s doing a pop-house and R&B sound, like a mixture,” Jonsin reveals. “It’s really cool. Some uptempo stuff, some ballads, all around really nice—more like a Donna Summer sound.”

Although Rowland, who was formerly signed to Columbia Records/Music World Entertainment, hasn’t officially announced a new label deal yet, Jonsin dropped a hint as to where she may end up. “I believe she’s in talks with Universal Motown right now, and a couple others.”

This is certainly some interesting news. It’s great to see Rowland continuing to develop an international sound and target markets beyond the US. However, having not made a major impact on the Billboard Hot 100 since ‘Dilema’, it is crucial that she caters for her US consumers, something that Jonsin and the rest of her team seems to have considered by incorporating such a “mixture” of sounds. My only concern now is her voice. In recent performances, Rowland has been struggling to deliver on the vocal front. Whether it is fair comparison or not, people are always going to compare her to Beyonce in every aspect of her career, thus she has to make sure that she is on point, both in the studio and in her live showings. We all know what she is capable of doing and now it’s time for her to show it.

Kelly Rowland, Nelly 'record duet sequel'

Nelly has revealed that he and Kelly Rowland have recorded a follow-up to their hit duet 'Dilemma'.

The rapper said that he hooked up with the former DC star last month to complete new track 'Gone', a second installment to 'Dilemma', which topped charts on both sides of the Atlantic upon release in 2002.

According to Young Hollywood, the hip-hop star claimed that it was not difficult persuading Rowland to reprise her role for the song's sequel.

He said: "We were in the studio in Miami and I called K (Kelly) and she was in the bed and just shot down to the studio...

"We know we can't in no way shape of form (sic) can we outdo part one. There's no way. You're going in a lose situation if you go in trying to do that what the new song is doing is a continuation of the story."

Global star Kelly Rowland is currently wrapping up the recording process of her hotly anticipated third studio album; and That Grape Juice can EXCLUSIVELY confirm that the 28 year old singer has recently enlisted hit-maker Ne-Yo for the project. The ‘Miss Independent’ singer/songwriter joins the likes of Brian Kennedy, Jermaine Dupri, Bangladesh, Baby Face, Toby Gad, David Guetta, Rico Love, Jim Jonsin, Bryan-Michael Cox, Eric Hudson, and The Stereotypes, all of whom Rowland has worked with on the album.

As previously reported, the Destiny’s Child alumni is preparing to formally announce her new record deal with Universal Motown, home to the likes of Lil’ Wayne and Young Money, Akon, and Nelly.
