I'm a HUGE fan of the original, and I actually think this looks pretty good...

Obviously they're re-making a classic, so I can see why a lot of people are a bit annoyed about it (well in truth it didn't need re-making at all really..!!!) but i'm willing to give this film a go as I do think the visuals are superb. I like the casting for the film a lot as well. Katie Cassidy is one of my favs, and so is that guy who played John Connor in Sarah Connor Chronicles. I think they've got the casting of Freddie pretty much spot on as well...

...And here we go again.... <_< Another example of the deep unoriginality of Hollywood... I went to see "Triangle" the other week... Honestly, what a startlingly different and quite refreshing take on the Horror genre that is... I actually didn't really see the ending coming (even though it was influenced a little bit by the excellent low-budget Spanish horror "Timecrimes"). So, a little Australian film made by a Brit director is almost certainly beating the Hollywood machine to a pulp in terms of originality and difference.... And, stuff coming out of France and Spain like "Martyrs", "Timecrimes", "Fermat's Room" and "Inside" is also showing up Hollywood for the absolute joke that it is...

Oh, and Halloween 2 - PISH.... Rob Zombie has officially lost it.....

I'm waiting for it with interest as well. It was my favourite (and still is) horror movie.

And indeed fantastic that Katie Cassidy is there as well.

I quite liked the original (from what I can remember) sure I'll end up seeing it thanks to Harris :P
Looks good! So glad it looks as if they've included so many of its iconic scenes also.

this is the only horror charactar (apart from the guy from halloween) that i still get scared of so i'm looking forward to seeing this to get scared a bit..

and is that the girl from harpers island..?

Sorry, is that actually a reason to call it "good".. Bad enough they remake something that's clearly so iconic, but then they just "photocopy" bits of Wes Craven's original too and pass it off as something new..... Some of us would refer to that as "Plagiarism".... Craven himself may be happy to take the money and run, that's his prerogative, but those of us who are actual FANS of his creation are absolutely disgusted at yet another bunch of fukkin' hacks taking it upon themselves to rip off yet another iconic Horror film..... <_<

But isnt that arguement a "damned if you do, damned if you dont" scenario? Cos usually when there are remakes involved one of the biggest complaint that most people have is that it isnt true to the original... So surely by this giving a slight nod to the original should keep some people happy?

...Or maybe just not do remakes at all.....

I really, really just dont get how in the Horror genre these days they just seem to be getting it all so incredibly WRONG... It wasn't always so, John Carpenter's "The Thing" and David Cronenberg's "The Fly" were full-on, heart-skipping-a-beat, white-knuckle, unrelenting TERROR rides which just completely upped the ante from the original sources on every level... Just WHY is it that today's film-makers cant even get their remakes out of first gear....? Even Rob Zombie, who I had very high hopes for, has fallen into the trap with the second half of Halloween remake (SUCH a disappointment after the first hour) and the absolutely dull, dreadful, disappeared-without-a-trace Halloween 2..... A film so utterly devoid of any merit at all, it's all-but gone from the Cinemas about a week or so before Halloween itself has actually arrived.....

The list of really, really BAD remakes (which frankly includes a hell of a lot of cr@ppy early 80s "slasher" flicks which really should have been forgotten about anyway, I mean, did we REALLY need remakes of "My Bloody Valentine", "Hills Have Eyes 2" or "The House on Sorority Row", I DONT THINK SO, these films were all pretty sh!t to begin with...) is reading like a very long catalogue of complete and utter CACK.......

Ok, can anyone tell me which movie had some peeps trying to leave there town in a car where they were being chased, only to return back to the place where they started every single time?

In a 'Nightmare' film? None. There was a similar scene though in 'Nightmare 4: Dream Master' where Alice & Dan are trying to get to Debbie's place but they're on a loop and keep repeating the same thing (jump in the car, drive to Debbie's, get out and start all over again).

And I'm really not looking forward to this remake. I find them so unnecessary and quite frankly insulting. There was no need for them to "reboot" the franchise.

Also, this new Freddy looks more like Lord Voldemort & sounds like The Grinch. Hmm. The only thing I like is that they're keeping him dark and creepy as opposed to the joker he ended up being turned into from 4 onwards.

I'm really sad they didn't offer cameo roles to Robert Englund and Heather Langenkamp, too. Heather's role as Nancy is praised by all 'Nightmare' fans and she often tops the poll in 'Favourite Nightmare heroine'. It'd have been nice to see her play the new Nancy's mum just so that PD acknowledge the original 'Nightmare' fans.

Oh well. I'm not expecting much from this remake. The first is a classic and you just can't touch those - especially with Hollywood's take on "horror".

If this sucks half as bad as the 'Halloween' remakes I won't be going to watch. :/

Katie Cassidy is an interesting choice though...

Heather Langenkamp is pretty much in semi-retirement tbh, I cant think of anything she's been in since "New Nightmare"... It would've indeed been logical to cast her maybe as one of the parents of the new Elm St kids, but, they may have asked and she turned it down for all we know... Similarly with Englund, maybe he just didn't want to go back there....

She's done a few TV show appearances, directed some stuff and did make-up for a few films (including Evan Almighty), but that's about it. Neither actors were asked to be apart of the film. I don't even think Wes was asked. I mean, I know they don't have to since he had to sign everything over with the first film in order to get New Line on board, but it would have made sense to have SOME involvement from Wes seeing as he wrote & directed the film.

I think you're right about Heather - she only ever worked on the 'Nightmare' films when Wes was involved. They wanted her back in 'Nightmare 2', but she declined because Wes wasn't involved. In 'Nightmare 3', she said she'd return but only if they killed Nancy off (and at least they did it at the end...but ugh. That's another story/disappointment in itself, lol). But I still think it'd have been nice to get her to play Nancy's mum just out of respect. :(

the third one was really good as well!!

That's my second favourite, too. Actually, my top three are the 'Nightmares' Wes worked on (1, 3 and 7).

I don't remember it exactly, but bringing Nancy back as a dream expert to help the group of teenagers in Western Hills was cool. Patricia Arquette as Kristen did a great job, too.

Hmmm, it's questionable how much input Craven had in "Dream Warriors" tbh.. He didn't direct it at all (Chuck Russell did), and he's like one of FOUR screenwriters.... Although, it's certainly the best of the sequels (New Nightmare being more of a "re-boot" and setting the record straight...)

Yeah, I remember being surprised he didn't direct it.

I read his original script and while it is quite different from the finished result, it seems as though he came up with most of the concept and characters for that film.

'New Nightmare' is often frowned upon by fans, from what I see on horror forums. Personally, it's one of my favourites. While it doesn't follow the same formula we've been used to seeing in 'Nightmare' films, I thought the idea was genius. There are things that could have been executed better, but all in all it was a welcomed change in the franchise. And you're right - it was a re-boot. I can see why Wes wanted to write the film considering how far removed from the original the later films had become.

As for this remake, I'm still holding out hope. Ideally, I wouldn't want this being remade at all but the one good thing about all these remakes is it allows the "new generation" to go and dig out the original classics and appreciate those.
