'New Nightmare' is often frowned upon by fans, from what I see on horror forums. Personally, it's one of my favourites. While it doesn't follow the same formula we've been used to seeing in 'Nightmare' films, I thought the idea was genius.

Yeah, well, most of these "fans" are more into the crappy "Freddie Vs Jason" style "Elm St" films, and just totally miss the point of Craven's original vision of Freddie being a total monster as opposed to the rather camp joke character he became after "Dream Warriors"...

Personally, I liked the fact that New Nightmare went back to presenting the frightening, monstrous aspects of the character and left all the silly jokes and wisecracks behind... And I thought it was an interesting angle to focus in on how the films affected the lives of the actors and Craven himself... Sure, some things could have been done better but, really, New Nightmare was the genesis of the Post-Modern/Self-reflexive horror, and, lo and behold, a few years after, you had "Scream" (the original and BEST..), also directed by a certain Mr Craven....

New Full Length Trailer

I hate to say it but the new trailer does makes the film look rather disturbing: some of the imagery (the 'female freddy', when he scratches the wall at 1.06, the way Freddy walks into the room when the girl is laying on the bed, the snow in the bedroom, when Nancy is at the drug store etc.) and especially the line, "Why are you sreaming? I haven't even cut you yet." The new plot line that after a certain amount of sleep deprivation, you will begin to dream even though you're still awake, is a twisted and great new addition(I'm pretty sure they didn't do that in the original but it's been years since I've watched it) Also the actress playing Nancy seems pretty solid and the character that warns her about dreaming while awake looks pretty good too. And personally I think the new Freddy is pretty terrifying, going by the trailer. Lets just hope that in the end, it isn't as bad as we all think it will be

It looks like any other horror film based on the wooden characters, crappy CGI and script.

This is all based on the trailer, obviously, but let me start with Nancy: in the original, she was shown as being strong, independent and logical. This new one, in the trailer, is asking people what to do and how to stop him. Uhh...what?! The original Nancy defeated Freddy on her own. She worked out what was happening, she figured out who he was and she found the way to defeat him. From what I read, this new one is supposed to be a goth. A loner. I mean, I get that they are "re-imaging" the film but still...

The CGI really cheapens the scenes, too. For example, in Kris's death scene she's being levitated. Compare to the original, Tina was being lifted by Freddy. It was much more powerful that way. Much more brutal. Also, where Freddy pushes through the ceiling - the original seemed much more real and thus terrifying. This new one is just blah.

As for the characters, you could put them in any horror film in the last 10 years and you wouldn't know the difference. They are your typical teenage modern-horror victims. Just bad.

Good points: I like the micro-sleep idea. Jackie seems to do a good job, but still won't hold a torch to Robert. Umm...what else is there? Oh, I like the girl playing Nancy, too. It'll be interesting to see what her take on the character is like compared to Heather's (again, I doubt she'll be better).

On the whole, it looks like it's going to be an alright film. Still think it could have done with less CGI, non-stereotypical teenagers and a better writer. But eh - it's Platinum Dunes. They don't care.

'This might sting a bit'. Love it!

Actually the movie looks rather funny :heehee:

Hmmm doesn't look too promising tbh. In the trailer, I recognised SO MANY scenes from the original first film. It literally is a 're-make'.

EDIT: oooo I dunno actually. Just seen the above trailer ^, it looks REALLY good.

I whore-heartedly agree! I think I lost interest in the Elm Street films by the third one (which was $h!te!). I hated the way Freddie became this comical character, totally killed of the series.

The 'new' Freddie face REALLY doesn't look scary a bit for me. :( I bet this night i will have a nightmare with it and i will change my mind
iv watched all nightmare on elm street films and freddy films and imo this looks $h!t and he looks less scary but i hope im wrong
I think it looks amazing personally! :o I thought the original, whilst good, just was a bit stupid and cheap. I liked it but meh. Can't wait for the remake, it could be one of the few that's actually any good!

Well, the original was made on a small budget but was executed brilliantly. There was no CGI back then, so you had to do the special effects yourself. Bob Shaye & Wes Craven worked really hard to get financing for the film. There were even times when they thought they wouldn't be able to pay the cast at the end of the month. It was a tough shoot.

That scene was alright. I don't know how I feel about Rooney Mara yet. I just feel like some of the CGI effects in this film aren't really that necessary and in some cases don't even work half as good as the original's effects used.

I hope it gets shown in 3D :o <3

It isn't being converted to 3D, which I'm pleased about, as it only really works if the movie is truly filmed using the technology, as opposed to converted afterwards. However, I agree that it would have been amazing.

I also hope that they don't over egg the cake when it comes to the CGI. The "coming through the wall" scene in the trailer doesn't look good at all, and loses some of the power of the original scene, but I'm hoping the rest works fine.

I hope this is certified 15 but i highly doubt it  i reckon it'll be R-18

if so that means i gotta wait till it leaks online :kink: but there's nothing better than seeing it from the cinema :(

I'm hoping for an 18 certificate here in the UK. This needs to be full on and brutal, and I'd hate for them to have to water it down at all.
The words "From Producer Micheal Bay" tell me everything I need to know frankly... The man who ruined "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "The Hitcher" and "Amityville Horror" clearly cant come up with any kind of semi-original horror concept so he has to plunder the good sh!t from the past because he's just a third rate hack both as director and producer.... Frankly, slow torture by being strapped to a chair and shown endless loops of all his "films" with a 12" steel rod being jammed up his arse should he attempt to look away or fall asleep, should be his punishment.... <_< Perhaps our old mate Jigsaw could arrange this.....
last time i went to watch a scary film at the cinema there were girls everywhere screaming at bits that are not even scary... lol but i cant wait for this film
