Posted October 21, 200915 yr Liam Maher, the frontman of Flowered Up, has died. Little is known at this point about the singer's death, but the band's record label have confirmed the news. Maher fronted the baggy band Flowered Up in the early '90s. For many they were considered London's equivalent to northern bands like Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets. Flowered Up were best known for their Top 20 single 'Weekender', the 12-minute, 55-second track being their highest charting single. They released their only album 'A Life With Brian' in 1991 and also appeared on the cover of NME before splitting in 1994. After the band, Maher signed up to Alan McGee's Poptones record label in 2001, but the deal fell through before anything was released. More details about Maher's death are due to be released later today (October 21). Although I didn't rate most of Flowered Up's output they were responsible for this absolute classic: VMAHtOuZtnc RpgPH0GfGV4
October 22, 200915 yr "Weekender" was pretty great, but everything else was really second-rate Baggy.... I listened to their album, and just got bored with it... It's a shame when anyone dies young though.... I dont think Maher was really all that old...
October 22, 200915 yr Heard this sad news on Tuesday. On the contrary to how most people regard Flowered Up ('Weekender' great, everything else $h!t), 'It's On' remains one of my favourite singles ever. 'Weekender' is genuinely remembered as a classic of the time and 'Better Life' (their lost final single) really deserved to go Top 10. RIP Liam.
