Yes, Leona or whoever else may 'technically' be better, but Sophie's oozes personality, elegance, character and charm which does it for me more. :P

Oh and I'd have said Alison Goldfrapp but I assumed this was about solo singers.

Amy Winehouse by a long shot.

   At Geri Halliwell being in there!

Norma

Top 5

1 Lily Allen

2 Melanie C

3 Natasha Bedingfield

4 Dido

5 Amy Winehouse

Vocally, Leona is by far and away ahead of everyone else imo. But Amy Winehouse definately comes second, even if she has put in some awful live, vocal performances.

My order of preference:

01. Leona Lewis

02. Amy Winehouse

03. Beverley Knight

04. Alexandra Burke

05. Natasha Bedingfield

06. Duffy

07. Charlotte Church

08. Adele

09. Melanie C

10. Alesha Dixon

11. Dido

12. Lily Allen

13. Sophie Ellis Bextor

14. Gabrielle

15. Roisin Murphy

16. Katie Melua

17. Geri Haliwell

18. Emma Bunton

19. Cheryl Cole

20. Estelle

I LOVE the tone in Cheryl's voice, but overall she's not THAT good. Estelle's voice however is fowl full stop :puke:

you've omitted Alison Moyet - still selling lots of albums, still easily outsinging every other name on that list. And Geri Halliwell...but no Alison Goldfrapp, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Florence, Siouxsie Sioux.... err???????

To name Leona Lewis as the best is laughable - emotionless, bog-standard, show-off histrionics. And all the star quality of a bag of chips.

Tbh out of that list, I chose Leona Lewis because she's the best vocalist in there.

1.Lilly Allen

2.Amy Winehouse

3.Natasha Bedingfield

My order of preference:

01. Leona Lewis

02. Amy Winehouse

03. Beverley Knight

Am I imagining things, or did Jonjo put Beverley Knight in third?! :o

Anyway, Beverley Knight is obviously mine. She's better than a lot of them put together. I believe she has one of our best voices, not in the same way as Leona Lewis, but on tone and power. She's also kind, intelligent, energetic and brilliant live. I couldn't ask for ask for a better artist. Favourite song is probably "Black Butta" at the moment, though it changes frequently:

To rate them all:

01. Beverley Knight

02. Estelle

03. Leona Lewis

04. Amy Winehouse

05. Alesha Dixon

06. Sophie Ellis Bextor

07. Alexandra Burke

08. Emma Bunton

09. Natasha Bedingfield

10. Lily Allen

11. Gabrielle

12. Melanie C

13. Adele

14. Duffy

15. Roisin Murphy

16. Geri Haliwell

17. Charlotte Church

18. Katie Melua

19. Cheryl Cole

20. Dido

I'd say I was only a big fan of the top 5 and a moderate fan of the top 14. Not keen on the bottom three. Gabrielle's inclusion might be a little skewed for me, her material peaked in the 90s for me. I'd have rather seen the likes of Little Boots or VV Brown in over Cheryl Cole if we're going for one album artists.

In terms of ability it is Leona without question, she is probably a contender for the best female singer of the decade in the WORLD let alone Britain, I would put her just behind Christina Aguilera in terms of vocal brilliance of any female singer anywhere this decade she is that good

She is tarred with the X Factor brush and there is a bit of a stigma attached to reality tv show winners but god can this girl sing even if she has the charisma of a corpse

Leona, Amy, Lily and Duffy are the best imo. Oh and just because I love her Alesha makes my top5 :)

(01) Amy Winehouse

(02) Lily Allen

(03) Duffy

(04) Leona Lewis

(05) Alesha Dixon

In terms of vocal ability, it would be between Leona, Amy and Beverley. But to be honest, it's Dido I've probably enjoyed listening to more the most this decade :( YES I KNOW.
Am I imagining things, or did Jonjo put Beverley Knight in third?! :o
I like Bev's voice. It's strong, powerful and soulful. I just don't like the material she puts out (before '100%' :heehee: - oh and barring 'Shoulda Woulda Coulda' too :P)
But to be honest, it's Dido I've probably enjoyed listening to more the most this decade :( YES I KNOW.

No need to be ashamed! Dido's early stuff was brilliant :D
