Posted October 26, 200915 yr dropping a MASSIVE 31 places this week is surely the death of this group. sorry guys, not even a #1 single now can save them, the figures no longer stack up. the plug will now be pulled on the saturdays, i predict early in the new year. huge promise, but ultimately failed to deliver.
October 26, 200915 yr The effect of a lead single that only appealed to core fanbase - got to question the sanity of such a release. Such a silly title also. They can recover but this is a major setback. Next single to be excellent with large appeal outside of fanbase otherwise won't get a third from this album.
October 26, 200915 yr The are fine for now, I mean Little Boots fell 5-40 but she is still releasing music from her album. If Ego has the same effect on the album as Issues did I think they'll be fine.
October 26, 200915 yr Author i like your optimism guys, but imho if they come out of this to create a third album, ill be VERY surprised. they already have said that there wont be a third album if this doesnt do well... they know the score, i just highly doubt that a successful single will rescue the album, i cant ever remember an album plumetting so far , so fast, to be ressurected by a single. i cant see it..... imho it is only now a question of time.
October 26, 200915 yr I think 'Ego' can save it, but it'll need to be a pretty big hit. I agree though, if the second single doesn't help the album out it's doomed and their future is in the balance. I'm actually gobsmacked at how bad this album is doing. :(
October 26, 200915 yr I hate to say it guys but I think Mushy may very well be correct here. Unless Ego and the third single (assuming we get one) bring the albums total sales to something half respectable then it could be the end. Saying that I would like to focus on the positive and think that if the album sales get up to a decent number then the label will realise that there is potentital with them after seeing the sucsess of Chasing Lights and see the mistakes made with this era (bad choice of lead single, releasing album after only 1 single) and hopefully not drop them.
October 26, 200915 yr Don't make me laugh! I'm not having a repeat of last year, where this idiot jumps on anything negative that happens regarding The Saturdays. As Steve said, Little Boots fell just as hard..even harder and came back laughing with Remedy. Let's discuss this if Ego flops, which it won't. End.
October 26, 200915 yr In response to Mushy in the other thread (I don't know why it was locked :/ its worthy thing to discuss about) You're very wrong IMO. If you look at the album falls this week: 12 1 2 Editors In This Light & On This Evening 14 3 5 Madonna Celebration 26 7 4 Barbra Streisand Love Is The Answer 28 4 2 Shakira She Wolf 34 14 2 Taio Cruz Rokstarr 40 9 2 The Saturdays Wordshaker Not only The Sats freefalled, so does that mean it's the end of Editors/Madonna/Shakira ect as well? And it's a result of a high trend in front-loaded sales, the album hasn't been marketed much also - their core fans only bought in the first week. Their other markets will only start buying after the second or third single is out like they did with Chasing Lights which also freefalled fast but recovered, which is going to happen with Ego and when the other singles are out. It's a brilliant alnum, it's not a Catfights & Spotlights which deservedly floppeed and the second single couldn't save it either because it was as equally awful as the album was. Ego is not a No Can Do, it's the obvious "Up" of this era. The album will comeback, anyone whose clued up on the album's quality and how the album sales pattern is ATM will agree with me. There is plenty of major hit-single material left on the album as well. I think you're just going a bit too ahead of yourself and jumping to conclusions which people jumped to when CL fell in a similar pattern. As Steve said, Little Boots also saved her album with her second single as an example. So, The Sats will have anything but problems when Ego (and I'm not being optimistic, it's blatently obviuous  ), they are definitely not over. They're the in and future of girl groups in the UK. Based on your conclusions the Sugababes should've been "game over" as well after C&S but they're not and the Sats are not that far behind the Sugas in terms of popularity and their fan bases keeps growing bigger if you look at Chasing Lights chart run it'll substantiate this, they dropped out of the top 75 within 4 weeks! And came back against all the odds that they were up against if its anyone who knows how to comeback commercially it's the Sats! :D
October 26, 200915 yr OK then so re-opening this thread with a nice new title. I think theres potential here for a great discussion as to how this era can be saved, or more importantly will this era be saved. Be constructive and try not to bite each others heads off.
October 26, 200915 yr thanks Aled for re-opening this thread. Yeah, thanks. Just a pity my loong post regarding this topic is now in the other thread because this one was locked LOL.
October 26, 200915 yr Yay thanks Aled you're like a super-mod! Don't say that about him. Ever. Go to the Girls Aloud forum, you'll see how modding is done ;) Edited October 26, 200915 yr by FightForThisTheo
October 26, 200915 yr Don't say that about him. Ever. Go to the Girls Aloud forum, you'll see how modding is done ;) Haha sorry, wouldn't visit that forum if it were the last on here. If there's 2 groups I can't stand its GA and the Sugas, The Sats are just THE girl group for me. I think I'd make a great mod as well but I don't know how you become one? Still a little new around here.
October 26, 200915 yr It's not over just yet. Their first album didn't start selling great until Issues really.

WILL 'ego' ressurect the albums popularity?.... if it does, IF it makes money to make them a viable business then yep, the sats will become established, but tbh they should be by now and they are not. put it like this....... their future is well in the balance, by now they should be home and dry , this is realistic not having a pop for the sake of it. they are a business venture, a commercial enterprise , as soon as they stop making enough money, where investment isnt generating suitable income, they will be dropped. id suggest that based on sales so far , (and this album should have been bigger in the initial stages then chasing lights as they are now better known ) that time is much closer then some fans would want to believe.
October 26, 200915 yr If Wordshaker turns out to have Catfights & Spotlights type sales, The Saturdays will be dropped as Rob says they are not established enough to be able to get away with a flop album. The Saturdays are hanging in the balance at the moment, if Ego doesn't help the situation it will be over. It's going to be HARD for Ego to get noticed as it's released Christmas week, when sales are high and competition is fierce. They are going up against Robbie Williams and the X Factor Winner at the moment and it's a week that is only going to get more competitive. IMO they need to push Ego back a few weeks to the same week as Issues was this year, January 4th, when competition is sure to be quieter and would give the album to rise up the charts. It's only usually albums that are already doing well that benefit from the Xmas rush and Wordshaker could drown. All this post is said with a :(
October 26, 200915 yr Author well said steve.. tbh they are missing a golden oportunity, they should release a christmas song! a damn good crimbo pop song would see them set for life regardless of wether or not the exist as a group.

I think The Sats have established themselves very well from their debut alone, maybe they're not as established, but they're establishing and with four top 10 singles from a top 10 album does say something about how big of a fanbase they're getting, even the front-loaded Wordshaker sales prove this as well. I see the points you and Steve are making though, IMO I just don't see them being dropped so early, they're not exactly Leon Jackson-esque flop yet. They've done f***ing brilliantly in their debut and I doubt Ego will flop even if it is released in the Xmas/Xfactor rush. But I've said before and Steve also pointed it out, January would be FAR better. I think The Sats are still too new and their debut's been too good for them to be dropped if they don't comeback with strong album sales after Ego (which I highly highly doubt  ). Each era was started off with the wrong lead single, which is a fault the label made, not the girls, so the girls shouldn't take the fall for their label's mess-ups, because they've certainly done their part exceptionally, where the record label hasn't came close. I think they'd be wise enough to recognize that they were at fault and the girls can comeback well if they handle things smoothly instead of dropping them if they consider it if Wordshaker flops.
