CLAD in a satin dinner jacket, the original Pop Idol looked every bit the veteran showman at this decadent launch of new compilation The Hits.

 

 

Surrounded by pink lighting and sparkly chandeliers, the charming lad hooted: “I feel like I’m in Vegas or on a cruise ship – so enjoy the cocktails and embrace the night.”

 

 

 

With a selection of songs hand-picked by a slighty sozzled audience, Will pulled on the heart-strings with emotional renditions of old faves Who Am I and Leave Right Now.

 

 

Upping the beat for Light My Fire got the crowd jigging in their posh seats, while an enigmatic, if slightly OTT, pianist spread his energy far and wide.

 

 

Gushing audience members lapped up new song Hopes And Fears as Will took to a stool like a young Val Doonican.

 

Finishing with a few French words, Will more than proved he still has that magic touch

The chintzy but expensive surroundings of The Langham Hotel made Will Young feel like he was performing on a cruise ship at his The Hits album launch last night!

And, wearing a dinner jacket and singing an off-the-cuff cruise-style ditty, it would have been a pretty awesome holiday treat. Because, showman as ever, it's hard to get over the Pop Idol star's amazing talent and hilarious personality. Yes, he had the crowd of music execs, journalists and hardcore fans in fits of laughter at his quips.

His audience, including manager Simon Fuller, were all asked to request their favourite tracks from the past seven years - and yes he has got more than enough to fill a greatest hits album! His renditions of tracks Who Am I and Leave Right Now caused a hush across the audience. Next came an emotional rendition of Evergreen, his first number one single, before upping the ante for Come On Baby Light My Fire, showed why he's sold eight million records over the years. Ending on new song Hopes and Fears, we know he's going to be around for a long while yet...
