Most of our "traditions" are imported from other sources mate, as you WELL know.... I think we've really already established that pretty much most of what we call "Britishness" is in reality from various European sources.....

that the uk lead the world over the last milennia in the development of a fair and just legal system built on the back of christian morals?..

That's pretty much bull.... Much of the last Millennium was more about the legal system conforming to the whims of whatever monarch was in power..... This ridiculous notion of "all justice flowing through the King who was appointed by God", all very well if the King was a wise man, but pretty fukkin' useless if he was a mad tyrant.... The whole problem we have in this country is that there is not a properly defined, codified system of Law, it's all mostly down to case law and how Judges actually choose to interpret things... You might say that this is flexibility, well, I say that over the years it has led to some seriously bad laws and flawed judgements which have very little to do with what is actually "Just"....

... who runs the country? the monarch or parliament? after the civil war nearly 400 years ago parliament has the power, power given to it through laws and the christian based legal system. knock our system if you want but imho its still the best in the world.

You mean the system which allows a party which gained 35% of the vote at the last election to do more or less what it likes? The system which makes the largest Liberal party in Europe the least powerful? The system which has an unelected head of state? The system which has a wholly unelected second chamber of parliament?

How is that the best system in the world?

Who runs the country - the monarchy or parliament? Neither. It's run by Rupert Murdoch and Paul Dacre (editor of the Daily Hate-Mail)

i was refering to our legal system, whether our political system is 'world leading' or not is another issue.

I'm sorry, but while I support multiculturalism/ethnic diversity in that race/ethnicity/culture should not be a criterion for discrimination; I, nor anyone else was asked whether or not there should've been the massive largely unchecked immigration in the last twelve years.

The outcome of a criminal case can still be determined by which side has the better lawyers. Our system is too adversarial and we should look at reforms towards a more inquisitorial system.

As for our libel laws, noone could seriously suggest that they are the best in the world.

our legal system though is still updating itself, ok, it might be far from perfect but id not swap it for any other countries.
