Jessica: The New Mariah?

Friday Jun 09, 2006 6:00am EST

Don't expect any dirt about her breakup with ex Nick Lachey on Jessica Simpson's upcoming album, And the Band Played On. "She's talking about having fun with her girlfriends," Jessica's dad Joe tells us. "Enough has been said. Let's go on and live our lives."

And Simpson found inspiration in another diva – Mariah Carey – for the CD, due out Aug. 29. "It's a lot like Mariah's record, you know. They're both the same kind of singers, they're both ballad singers," says Joe. Jessica even worked with songwriter Johnta Austin, who cowrote Carey's "We Belong Together." And look for Simpson to pick up the tempo in her first single, which papa Simpson describes as "Madonna meets Janet – it's totally the unexpected."

I've heard the new song "A Pubblic Affair" on her new site and I think it's a great song.

In my opinion, it sounds a lot like Britney's BOMT era, but "adapted" to these days, and it turned out to be a great sound.

The song is 100% pop, no hip-hop or country elements (Fired Up/Boots), just nice harmless pop which I happen to really like.

Using Mariahs hit co-writer (Johnta Austin) and also using Mariahs director (Brett Ratner), I think someone is trying to emulate someone else here....

Ahhh but with a totally different sound ;)

...A rubbish one. I just can't get into this song. Its too gimmicky for my taste. From the preview of the video I've seen that too looks equally poor :/

Suprisingly this is shaping up to do OK in the US (no-one should expect a smash-hit) with a nice little pop bullet of over +1000 on the radio :o
