November 8, 200915 yr 048 Girls Aloud 'The Loving Kind' 047 TV on the Radio 'Wolf Like Me' - Amazing!
November 8, 200915 yr Author 045 The Hold Steady 'Stuck Between Stations' 3Cem1ME-OvQ Back when I used to read Q these were mentioned in it with high praise every month. I saw pictures of them and saw them described as 'Bar Rock' and thought they were going to be typical overrated US tosh, so I ignored them. Then I heard this on the radio, really liked it and wondered who it was by. I was surprised when Steve Lamacq said The Hold Steady. It was weird that they sounded like they were described but so much better. It took a while to grow completely but it grew on me to the point it spent three weeks at number one in my chart and ended up #5 on my End of 2007 chart. It's still the 5th best single from 2007 in here, although the four above it are slightly different.
November 8, 200915 yr Author 044 The Shins 'Turn on Me' bIRmyfKOAfM This was one of those four ahead of 'Stuck Between Stations'. From when I first bought 'Wincing The Night Away' this was a highlight and was delighted when it was announced as a single. It went on to spend 7 weeks at the top of my chart, which is still the joint longest running number one in the 6 years of it existing, it did help that competition wasn't overly strong though. I still don't understand how this wasn't a hit. It's the type of indie pop that was quite popular at the time. If Scouting for Girls could make the top 10 these should've had a minimum of a year at #1 to be honest.
November 8, 200915 yr Author 043 Bright Eyes 'Take It Easy (Love Nothing)' VyR3CJ04pQU Bright Eyes released two albums one the same day at the beginning of 2005. Towards the end of 2004 he'd released a single off each in America, again both being on the same day. They were #1 and #2 on their sales chart. This was one of them. I didn't hear it for a good year after but it was something which I loved instantly and still do now. Lyrically superb, like everything he does though really.
November 8, 200915 yr Author 042 The Futureheads 'Hounds of Love' amh8V-MopUI This is probably my favourite cover version of all time. I don't love it as much as I did when it was first out (I was more than a bit obsessed back then!) but I still think it's the best song, which I almost feel bad about as their original material is all so good. It's rare a song makes such a big impact on me as this did though.
November 8, 200915 yr 044 The Shins 'Turn on Me' 042 The Futureheads 'Hounds of Love' - Brilliance, one of the best covers ever.
November 8, 200915 yr Author 041 The Walkmen 'The Rat' wDe_znFhP4c Despite all the critical acclaim I've never really managed to get into the Walkment at all apart from this song. A completely fogotten (actually it was never really known to forget) gem from 2004. A fantastic song I can't help but sing along to.
November 8, 200915 yr very pleased to see The Loving Kind so high, my third favourite of theirs  like I said somewhere else, everyone else says it's an inferior version of Call The Shots but I think they're missing the point a bit... The Loving Kind is beautiful, very emotional whereas Call The Shots, though I love it, feels a bit cold in comparison

November 10, 200915 yr Author I love you. Thank f*** someone else appreciates this amazing track, saw them live a few years ago, so fun. BANDAGES BANDAGES FROM MY HEART TO YOURS BANDAGES BANDAGES BAND-AGE-ES-ES-ES. I love so many of their songs. Edit: I just realised how lame it was when I said I loved you, let's ignore that bit. You can love me as much as you like to be honest....

The Loving Kind is beautiful, very emotional whereas Call The Shots, though I love it, feels a bit cold in comparison I agree with this completely. I've never seen anything to 'Call The Shots'. It's so utterly dull and uninteresting, especially the chorus. The Loving Kind is the complete opposite. I can see why people might group them together though...

They'll do even better on my albums chart so you have even more chance to wax lyrical...
November 10, 200915 yr Author 040 Interpol 'Evil' RNtGYdm2rOY As far as I'm concerned, Interpol are by far and away the finest singles act of the decade. Their albums have all been of varying quality but one thing they've all had in common is they've all spawned at least one utterly fantastic single. From 'Antics' it was 'Evil'....
November 10, 200915 yr Author 039 Coldplay 'Shiver' (#2 of 2000) LpwW4iraV3Q Since the release of 'Shiver', Coldplay's debut single, they've released many worldwide smashes and become one of the biggest bands on the planet. But it's always been their debut which has remained their finest piece of work. It's almost my favourite single from 2000, but not quite.
November 10, 200915 yr Author 038 Guillemots 'Trains to Brazil' X_aHlHc_Vb4 'Made Up Love Song #43' was as song that I thought showed a lot of promise when I first heard it. But it was this, their second single, a few months later at the end of '05 that started an 18 month love affair with the band. So much instrumentation on it, it's a great band at their best.
November 10, 200915 yr Author 037 Maximo Park 'Apply Some Pressure' zx00NuMSipc Anyone who knew me when I first posted on internet forums will know how obsessed I once was with Maximo Park and this song. This was probably the best of the glut of indie anthems that were around at the time, it deserved a hell of a lot more. I was so fixated with them that I actually bought this on both releases, not something I'd ever done before or have done since.
November 10, 200915 yr Author 036 Jenny Lewis With The Watson Twins 'You Are What You Love' 1H5yOfRG-RE Alt country isn't ever a genre I've ever particularly liked, so it was understandable that I wasn't overly bothered about Rilo Kiley lead singer Jenny Lewis' debut album to start with, teaming up with Folk/Country duo The Watson Twins. The first single didn't exactly grab me either, it was ok for a song of its type. But this was something a lot more special. It's light and joyous, and with great lyrics.
November 10, 200915 yr Author 035 Blink-182 'Adam's Song' (#1 of 2000) xmLa_W_afH4 I've never really liked Blink-182, and still to this day don't really know what possessed me to think it was a good idea to buy their best of. But I did make one excellent discovery from it; this. Released and totally ignored after smash hit 'What's My Age Again?' it wasn't a surprise I'd never heard it before. It's a far more serious affair than its predecessor and most of its parent album, referencing Nirvana and taking in topics such as depression and suicide. There are many theories as to how this song came about, but I guess only three people really know the truth.... Either way, it's stunning.
