Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 6.11

The new chart sees Robbie Williams' "Bodies" still hanging on the number one spot, for a third week in a row. The biggest challenge comes from Gossip's "Heavy Cross", which despite being 20-week old manages to reverse the downward trend and somewhat unexpectedly to jump to #2 from #7.

The biggest new entry of the week comes in at #4 from Popstar winners Queensberry. The girls had struggled to make a huge impact with their first releases but after their last single "Too Young" reached #5, their take on the Shakespears Sister 1992 hit "Hello (Turn Your Radio On)" becomes also their most successful single to date. The original peaked at #12. The new single is also the pilot song from Queensberry's second album "On my Own".

Two places below the girls, rock veterans Bon Jovi soar 18-6 with their newest single "We Weren't Born To Follow", with the sales boosted by the release of the single in a physical format.

The second highest new entry belongs to schlager singer Jürgen Drews. Drews is a veteran in the German charts, with his first single dating from 1972. In the summer of 1976 his "Ein Bett im Kornfeld" reached number one and he has only one top ten single with "Barfuß durch den Sommer". Now all changes with "Ich bau dir ein Schloss" (or "I'll build you a castle") entering at #10 and becoming Drews's third biggest hit in his long career. Last he was in the chart in 2005.

At #18 German band Culcha Candela enters with the second single taken from their fourth album. "Monsta" follows closely the pilot single of the album "Schöne neue Welt" which reached #12 some months ago. The album is however still to produce a top ten song.

Deserved, though unexpected, is the #36-22 jump of A-ha's latest single "Shadowside", which somehow shows that the sales behind the group are not only fan driven. The pilot single of the album "Foot Of The Mountain" also re-enters at #38 this week, perhaps because of the news that the band is to split up.

In a time when Cassandra Steen rules the singles chart (expect her third single, the glorious "Glaub ihnen kein Wort" soon), it's a tough period for her former band Glashaus to make a significant impact. Thus their comeback single "Das hier" (or "this here") enters this week at the underwhelming #43. Despite with a new singer to replace Cassandra and although the song is good German pop, I guess something has gone wrong. "Wenn Das Liebe Ist" is their only top ten single so far.

The other new entry worth mentioning is the third single of Kings Of Leon, which enters at #69. Not good position but it should be taken into account that everyone who cares has their wonderful album already.

In the albums chart, Rammstein remain at the top for a second week, challenged by German legend Westernhagen, whose latest album enters at #2. I still haven't heard the album but I hope that it has a song of the caliber of "Wieder hier" from some ten years ago.

At #4 is Michael Jackson's soundtrack to "This Is It", which to be honest has only one new song... and at #5 is Sting's holiday album "If On A Winter's Night".
