England didn't go out of the World Cup because Rooney was sent off but because of Sven's tactics', team selection (largely to accomodate Beckham)& his decision to take players that weren't fit. Ronaldo may have wound Rooney up but that is no excuse for his behaviour. Like Gascoigne before him his brains appear to be in his feet & he willl continue to let his country down if he can't control his aggression. I also think Shearer should be brought to task for his totally unprofessional comments.

As if one incident in one match could explain England's rather poor performance in the tournament over-all... England actually played a bit better against Portugal without Rooney and Beckham and only with 10 men..... Mind you, they only had Crouch as the main striker after the Rooney sending off, not much to work with there really....... :lol: Fact is, Sven fukked it, imagine taking two strikers whose fitness was definitely in question (and one whose temperament and ability to control his anger was in question....) and another striker who has no real skill or flair, just a lanky streak of pish who you play a long ball or cross to and hope the opposing team's defence is bad enough that he'll actually manage to get the head on it.... Alan Shearer's comments were pretty bloody stupid it has to be said... But then he aint exactly known for his smarts is he...?
