Yes - those albums that the critics said were rubbish, you thought was rubbish and no one bought.

My nomination

Manic Street Preachers - Lifeblood

When I got this I thought it was horrendous. Q gave it 2 out of 5. It was bland-arama. No magical guitar. No powerchords. No riffs. No bloody tunes!!!!!!

The lead single was the dullest, most tuneless piece of $h!te the band had ever released and probably ever written. I deemed it to be the worst album a major 90s band had released. Worse than even Suede's A New Morning - that's right.

I would often put it on to put me to sleep.

Now I bloody love it. Only the chorus of Cardiff Afterlife is offputting. I even like the Nixon single. Always/Never will always reek of David Bowie but I can put up with that.

This is possibly their most consistant album since This is My Truth and not once do you want to scream at the cd player when they go for the lowest of the low rock clichés like they did once or twice on Journal for Plague Lovers and several times on Send Away the Tigers.

A very good album and maybe one than non-Manic's fan would like.
