I always thought Peter Gabriel was better as a solo artist than he was in Genesis, but I felt Phil Collins was better in Genesis rather than a solo artist for instance.

 

I liked the Police, and thought Sting was a good vocalist, however as a solo artist I felt he was rubbish.

 

What artists do you think did better or worse as a solo artist?

Robert Plant's solo stuff post-Zep is pretty abysmal it has to be said.... And, really, nothing that Carl McCoy's done since dissolving the original Fields of the Nephilim and going it "solo" in a manner of speaking, has really been all that good.... He once infamously said "I AM the Nephilim" in an interview, well that clearly wasn't the case, as, try as he might, McCoy just cannot find the calibre of musicians he once had to operate under the Nephs name.... The less said about Bruce Dickinson's solo stuff the better as well..... Ronnie James Dio did a lot better as a solo artist than he did in Black Sabbath, and Dave Lee Roth proved he really didn't need Van Halen...
