Well it was actually her third offer from Simon. Once before for the xfactor and once for britains got talent, both of which she turned down at first.

Simon has Cheryl to thank as well. Since she joined the panel - X Factor exploded. I swear it never got these sort of ratings! And i don't think you can see - oh its cos of Leona, cos the 4th series after she won - wasn't like this.

Although another explanation could be the recession - and people are choosing to stay in rather than go out every saturday night

What made me laugh on Xtra Factor last night was that N-dubz were complaining that X Factor prevented them from getting a #1 single but the second the opportunity came, they were plugging their new album.

I said this last week or the week before and someone said earlier about TOTP - did people say how unfair it was that those who got on TOTP (back in the 80's) for them to go up the charts - cos thats what happened then. There would only be 6 or 7 artists featured then - not the whole top 40.

At least people are buying music legally!

I know what you mean, xfactor is basically a show thats praised by the artists big enough to get on it and criticised by the ones who dont have a chance. At the end of the day, the xfactor acts as promo and almost every artist wants as much of that as they can get.

I wonder if Calvin Harris will benefit for jumping on stage with a pineapple on his head! Lets face it, its as much media hype then the programme itself

lol heard about that this morning, definately the most random thing ive heard all week so far.

YES! this ^

The likes of Lily Allen/Calvin Harris/N-Dubz/Arctic Monkeys..and the rest of them that think they are somehow 'above' that kind of thing, secretly are waiting for THE phone call (that will never happen) I'm sure they'd jump at the chance and throw their 'artistic integrity' out of the window....for one night only <_<

It will be interesting to see what Sting does - if he goes on the show after Simon's request! Have to say that was genius of Simon to do that

I actually agree with Sting what he had said about x-factor.

Also last week entering the chart on Downloads only was Laura White. See below

She was an X-Factor finalist last year

I saw Laura last week in Edinburgh - she performed 3 songs - but she appeared to be a very nice person as she spoke to my partner.

Hmm? Sting invited to X Factor?!... like we'd say on Channel 4: NO DEAL!

I dennae think Sting would accept the invitation anyway...

His album totally looks out of sync with X Factor  It's more of an Alan Titchmarsh thing, he'd only look a big fool :P

Even more than usual? That would be quite an achievement ;)

The answer to all of this is to meld X Factor with a chart show - make it a two and a half hour extravaganza with chart elements woven throughout it, like a chart countdown or something like that. That way you keep the X Factor appeal mixed in with the business elements, whilst widening opportunities - it would dilute the power of going on X Factor but sales would go through the roof...the only problem is how to keep people interested when the X Factor element goes for eight months of the year. I'm sure showing it at the same time (i.e. rather than Thursday/Friday night) would help a lot as well...

Wut? He OBVIOUSLY won't go. First of all, he don't need all this promotion. And even if he needed, he isn't THAT dumb to say all this stuff and to accept to go on the show the next week. It's funny you think Sting is THAT desperate...

Well, Lily Allen and The Artic Monkeys have much higher UK sales than most artists that are invited to The X Factor. And Lily obviously would accept it. She was on Strictly Come Dancing and Ant & Dec Saturday Night Take-Away, why wouldn't she be on The X Factor?

Why would they do that? The show is a huge hit as it is. They won't change the format and risk losing the audience.

Did i say that Sting would go on - i was merely speculating, so don't sound like your superior. And i read on digital Spy i minute ago that he has declined. Why Simon is clever is because Sting can not win in this situation. If he goes on - he risks being made (through editing) to look like a twit. And by not going on, it looks like Simon's won

Like what does the performance of the BEPs and Shakira have to do with the actual competiton anyway

like Leona JLS and Cheryl are understandable because they are previous contestants/judges

but BEPs is just for publicity

Saying X Factor is "manipulating" the chart is ridiculous. If you're getting invited onto X Factor, then by definition you've earned it - the ONLY way you get a spot on the show is if you're an A-Lister already. I could understand the criticism if Simon Cowell was inviting nobodies from his record label to perform when they didn't deserve it, but ALL the acts on this series have been superstars in their own right, except for maybe Michael Buble.

And besides, it goes without saying that even if you're performing to millions, people still have to LIKE the song to buy it. Last week's XF got its biggest ratings of the series by far, but despite that, Leona still sold far less than Alexandra and Cheryl. And Shakira looks like she's going to make barely any dent at all. In fact, even for Cheryl's huge sales - when you think that 12m watched her perform, but only about 3% of those people actually bought her single in the first week, that's actually a shockingly small number when you think about it in those terms. That makes me think that, in the years to come, as more and more older people start downloading music, we're going to see sales for acts performing on XF climb even higher.
