Variety hereee. Piano based (Dresden Dolls, PJ Harvey, whose White Chalk is criminally underrated) to Girl Talk, a mashup artist. The Nine Inch Nails sample in 'Ask About Me' is literally ORGASMIC. Check it out. The National's album is obviously quite good as well. <3 Very solemn and contemplative.

Lawlz going through this fairly fast as I want to get this done before I return to Uni on Monday. Bit of an overload of female r&b / pop / indie here, but all good stuff. Afrodisiac, the song, pretty much put that album in the Top 100, though Afrodisiac is filled with incredibly solid R&B tracks and amazingly smooth production. Wild Beast's artful take on rebellious youth / racy issues presents an incredible juxtaposition resulting in an absolutely beautiful record ("This is a booty call / My boot, my boot up your asshole / This is a Freudian slip / My slipper, my slipper in your bits"). Florence and the Machine's Lungs is easily one of the best mainstream releases of 2009. Patchy in places, but amazingly producer and written overall. Kate Bush's return to music produced an incredibly strong album, especially considering her previous release, The Red Shoes, was only average (especially for Bush).

These are all fairly known acts so I don't have too much to say. All quite good albums. The video for Romeo is incredible, WATCH IT NOW. Easily one of the singles of decade. Rihanna dissapoints me now. :( But the solidness of GGGB places it in the list. Don't Stop the Music + Umbrella + Disturbia are all decade defining songs.

Modest Mouse may have moved to a major label, but they still put out some great music. Decemberists are nerdywonderful.

The final post for today; I'll try and post 30 tomorrow as well. And then I'll post more indepth reviews for the Top 40. Camille's become a bit of a phenomenon on here thanks to BJSC (:(), but her best work is easily Le Fil, a whole album based on the concept of one note (which runs throughout the entire album). Beautiful. Cut Copy make amazing, summery music that is perfect to dance to as well, whereas The xx are exactly the opposite, music to chill and and be emotion to. Both hipster as f*** though, ah well, still amazing. Sufjan is my lover. <3 And The Knife are obviously amazing. Deep Cuts features the track Heartbeats, which most people on here know via Jose Gonzales, though the original is miles better. The album is incredible though, and worth checking out for those who have not et done so.

TV on the Radio's latest, Dear Science, makes the list at 65th. An incredibly strong album that doesn't have a single bad track on it. Things get intense with Lupe Fiasco's political debut, and Justice's electronic-as-f*** debut that has practically defined the dance genre for the past few years. Things get a bit more delicate with Sufjan's religious release, Seven Swans, and Phoenix's perfection of the indie pop genre. If Wolfgang doesn't make you happy, you are heartless.

I've never really liked Yeah Yeah Yeahs at all until 'It's Blitz!'. Only 'Gold Lion' and 'Maps', the obvious ones really.

That's a better 10! Battles, Shins, M.I.A, TV on the Radio, Phoenix!

Sufjan's pre 'Illinois' material has been on my to download list for too long now... :(

could never get into the Justice album, it all sounded very samey to me, apart from the wonderful D.A.N.C.E. which obviously heavily inspired M.A.G.I.C. by The Sound of Arrows

Good Girl Gone Bad is a classic, took me ages to finally appreciate it fully though so I'm hoping Rated R will be a similar grower

  • Author

:o You MUST check out his older stuff. It's really wonderful. Especially Seven Swans. If you like the song I linked to, you'll like the album. Cross is fantastic. :( Albeit a little samey, it's a f***ing raveeeee. It's amaze when you have a bunch of friends together + some sort of influence and you just go crazy. Rihanna is good thoughzz.

Of Montreal's Hissing Fauna is a fabulously crazy record, and fairly well known on here I believe. If you're into and have yet to hear it, it's absolutely worth a listen. For those into rock moreso than indie, Sleater-Kinney are a MUST. They're effing rock n' roll at its finest. They're written off as riot grrl as two of the members are lesbian, but they are far, far more than that. The Go! Team, Dirty Projectors, and Animal Collective are all fairly indie standards, though all great. The Go! Team are delightfully crazy cheerleader inspired music, whereas Dirty Projectors are a mix of soulful vocals and bizarre backing. Animal Collective's Sung Tongs is much more minimalistic compared to what they're producing now, but equally as wonderful. It was actually recorded with just two members of the band, Avey Tare and Panda Bear.

This chart is the definition of music of quality and distinction.

Fabulous stuff.

When I have time, I will check out some of these acts that I have not heard bar the odd track or three by them.

I like these to varying degrees:

Florence and the Machine - Lungs

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones

Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad

Hot Chip - The Warning

The Decemberists - The Crane Wife

Janelle Monáe - Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase

The Kills - No Wow

Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News

Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours

The xx - xx

Kanye West - Graduation

Hercules and Love Affair - Hercules and Love Affair

Battles - Mirrored

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

M83's Dead Cities is a phenomenal album, one that you can get completely lost in. Synth heavy and wonderful. America is the definite standout imo. Patrick Wolf's The Magic Position, his first major label release, shows a much happier and orchestral side to the singer/songwriter, a nice change to the more earthy Patrick we were used to. Glass Candy's B/E/A/T/B/O/X pretty much defines the IDIB sound, and has inspired a wave of lo-fi disco since (Nite Jewel, Desire, etc.) But it's all welcome. RJD2's Deadringer was a stunning debut album, with hip hop production that completely changed the underground rap scene in the early 21st century. It's all absolutely stunning and worth a listen. The White Stripes are classic, of course, and their breakout album is full of catchy guitar hooks and bluesy arrangements. It's fabulous. I'm not as huge of a fan as I once was, but I can still definitely appreciate this album, as well as one other that's still to come.

I also just realized I left The National out of the list. :( I replaced it with The Knife's self titled album, as that's about where I'd put it ultimately.
