a MEDICATED.decade - -

So, I had no plans on doing one of these. But then I kept wondering about what my favorite song of the decade was, and started thinking about all the AMAZING songs/singles that have come out this year. I felt like I was ignoring a lot of great music in my albums topic because singles =/= albums. Some musicians have put out some of the most fabulous songs without putting out a single great album. Songs really have their charm; they're almost like their own little albums, with their own artwork, videos, and followings. They define the decades. Albums are much more impressive feet, but songs cannot be ignored.

 

So, here you go. My Top 60. It started as 100 but I do NOT HAVE TIME FOR THAT.

 

I created a new thread as I didn't want this my other thread to get messy. I like cleanliness and such.

 

There will be lots of good music to come with full Youtube videos pre embedded to be watched. Hopefully this topic will appeal to more pop oriented posters moreso than my other thread, though there is a great deal of indie here as well. I like a good mix of music. WOO.

 

There won't be any commentary for 41 - 60 as I want to get caught up with my albums. THERE WILL BE AFTER THOUGH. And it shall be nice. Basically, these next 20 songs are VERY GOOD and you should LISTEN TO THEM.

WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU BLOC PARTY. Seriously. I used to be such a huge fan. Because Silent Alarm was so damn GOOD. This track especially just worked well and basically highlighted everything that was good about indie music (though unfortunately the rise of Bloc Party lead to a bunch of $h!t bands as well). When Kele goes into falsetto in the line "Why'd you FEEEEEEEL so underrated?", the song just clicks. It's wonderful.

 

RIP the Bloc Party I love. :( Flux was the last good song they wrote.

This is the only country song on my chart LOL. :( I can't say I'm a huge fan of the genre. But this song is gorgeous beyond words. It's from two perspectives: a dead husband and the mourning wife. "Think I broke the wings off the little songbird; she's never gonna fly to the top of the world right now." It makes me cry, basically, and that's honest. A great song about death and moving on. The strings solo at the end is the perfect ending. If you're a Dixie Chicks fan, and you haven't heard this song, you owe yourself a listen. "'Cause everyone's singing, we just wanna be heard, disapearing everyday without so much as a word somehow. Wanna grab a hold of that little songbird, take her for a ride to the top of the world right now."

I confess I'm not a huge fan, but I do enjoy Wish, Sin, Discipline, Letting You, Closer, Hurt, and March of the Pigs quite a bit. ;o
