I *HATE* this 'Joe DESERVES number one' attitude. Why?? Lady GaGa spent years singing in bars and clubs before she finally got her shot. Joe was spoon-fed with songs for weeks in a reality TV show. Who truly DESERVES a number one?? With major publicity and, let's face it, no challenges, Joe was given an easy route to the final... He never proved himself as an entertainer - a great singer, yes, but nothing exciting. You watch someone like Lady GaGa come on to the X Factor and, as well as easily being a better SINGER than Joe, she was also better ENTERTAINER by 100000000 times. No exaggeration (:P). Perhaps for the first year... The professionals have been much better than the contestants!!

I included the Lady GaGa song in my 12 of the year in the thread in The Lounge, fukkin love it, if the campaign was to get that to xmas #1 instead of Joe then I would fully support that as its a fukkin good song but recycling some screamo song that is older than most that are buying it is just pointless to me

Why I rage on behalf of the ordinary Joes

Admittedly, Rage's is the better track, with that wonderful refrain: "f*** you, I won't do what you tell me". It's a shame for McElderry that, first, X Factor lumbered him with a dreadful song, first caterwauled by Miley Cyrus, sounding as though her dad was kicking her with his heaviest cowboy boots on. And, second, he's a perma-smiley white boy from South Shields.

Very odd assertion that, that being a handsome young white man counts against you. Especially in the pop charts, and especially from the Guardian stable.

All this stupid campaign is doing is BOOSTING Cowell's pocket, more people are buying The Climb than would normally have bought it

1) Joe fans who were perhaps not going to buy it going out and buying it because they hate the RATM song

2) Hardened Joe fans buying multiple copies to fight their idols cause

3) Extra publicity for Joe in the newspapers - Any publicity is good publicity as the saying goes

The Climb has well out sold Hallejullah

Everyone that bought RATM has left Cowell laughing all the way to the bank

Your correct, that article is the most uninformed guardian article on the chart battle this week.

I just found the "Rage's is the better track" amusing.

Just read the article, agree with her. It backs up what I was saying above that RATM buyers are giving more money to Cowell than would have happened

not sure if this has already been said buy apparantly at like 11pm last night xfm announced that ratm are ahead by 1102 copies but is it possible for them to know that? i hope so!

Where does that information come from? Do you have a link?

If that was known then stuff like that would cause the bookmakers to crash in favour RATM. And it hasn't so....

Edited by Sharpshooter

and i just had a look on google and quite a few other people heard xfm say it so it's not just him making it up. now let's just hope that xfm aren't making it up too..

That is different, it was the same song, regurgitating an ancient screamo record from years ago is totally different to buying copies of a superior version of Alex's song

"an ancient scremo record" oh Craig I really thought you had more musical knowledge than that, for a start scremo hadnt even started in 1992, you clearly dont even know that genre at all, and as for ancient, I was born in 1992 the ame year it was released. I dont find my self 'ancient' tbh.

I just find the whole campaign so ludicrously dull tbh. I ain't really fussed who's number one at the end of the day. Some crappy rock band or X Factor winner. =/

The only one out of the top three who DESERVES number one is Lady GaGa.

"some crappy rock band" rofl another Buzzjack ignorant to anything alternative to pop post, this whole website makes me cringe sometimes. as has been explained in this thread, Rage arent just some band, I was gonna ignore the 'crappy' bit because that is down to opinon, but you know what, they are not 'crappy' at all they are all brilliant musicians and no one can deny that if they know their stuff.

I wont even start on the last line.

Starting all over again................. :(

I'd really prefer you put all the info in spoilers now as i (and most people on here i'm sure) don't want to know anything about who's number one beforehand.

To be honest, if you don't want to know and read either this, iTunes or Chart Predictions thread then you kind of deserve it being spoiled....

You've just shown yourself up as being a numpty of the highest order.

If you read the avalanche of comments to the article you will realise that you are so far off the mark it is not true.

As for Simon Cowell he earnt $157 million in 2008, hence the money is not the principle, the principle is about deflating his massive crass ego of a businessman who clearly has no love of music and is destroying an artform by turning it into something as joyless as a supermarket brand of baked beans, sticking two fingers up at his X-Factor cartel where major acts now realise that they have to appear on that ghastly excuse of a talent contest that is about as fair and democratic as a Zimbabwean General Election, to stand a chance at reaching the UK#1. For example, just look at Lady GaGa whose Bad Romance was out a number of weeks beforehand yet only reached the chart summit after appearing on the dreadful show.

Can we not post any sales information, just keep it to yourself, some of us don't really want to know till later this evening.

I didn't think about it LOL

I doubt Cowell cares if he gets the Xmas #1, those that think he will spend tonight crying his eyes out clearly don't know the man at all, he will not lose any sleep over not getting the xmas #1, while the guy that started this Facebook campaign will be sitting at his laptop when RATM make #1 tonight feeling really big at having done over Cowell Cowell will be likely supping champagne on a lounger in the Bahamas full of the joys of life when he sees how much extra money The Climb has bought in, Cowell won't care about #1 all he cares about is £

This whole campaign is pointless, last year it was tried with Jeff Buckley but who was it that owned the rights to the Jeff Buckley song ? yes SIMON COWELL so he cashed in double thanks to the flawed and well meaning campaign
