Israel - 1976 - Chocolate Menta Mastik - Emor Shalom - 6th - 77 Points

The Israeli Charlie's Angels! :yahoo:

1976 is not one of the strongest years IMO but there are two songs I love: Ireland and Greece. And Norway so didn't deserve last place. Poor Ann-Karin!

Next one is no longer with us  I'm of course talking about Italy!!! :snif:

The singer is alive as far as I know :P Italy 1973 - Massimo Ranieri - Chi Sarà Con Te Sara

It came 13th with 74 points :)

Italy is so deeply missed.

Massimo, apparently, is still going strong. Back when I had Italian TV on cable, he starred in a numerous music galas.

But I personally prefer his 1971 entry "L'amore é un attimo".

1973 was quite an off-beat year. Portugal's song is still remembered for the way it got past censorship despite being quite an in-your-face complaint against the dictatorship regime. But I guess it was the paso-doble rhythm that got it into the top 10.

3 masterpieces from that year: Luxembourg, Spain and Israel. And what a shame they didn't appreciate the fun in Belgium.

And the last one for today, They came as fast as they went.. It's the only African country who have been to ESC.. it's MAROCCO - 1980 - Samira Bensaïd - Bitakat Hob

It came 18th with 7 points :P

What a shame Morocco never came back. This ethno-disco number really got me wondering what would they come up with next. I think they only entered this year because Israel withdrew.

My 1980 faves? Ireland, Turkey, Austria, Morocco, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and Luxembourg.

Next out is PORTUGAL from 1981, It's Carlos Paião - Play-Back

It came 18th with 9 points :P Love it

Love this song and what a shame how it was painfully overlooked.

1981 had the best set from the 80's. My faves: Denmark, Portugal, Ireland, Belgium, Greece and France.

Which song have I translated to English? :D

In a little valley high up north, where the sun is shining the night long

In a little valley high up north, did I hear a lap girl sing

The sang was coming with the wind, the southern wind took it over the seas

The girl was so light and with a happy mind

And the rythme she got as a cradlegift

In a little valley so high up, did I hear a song that sounded like this

Hey hey, high up in the mountains, do you hear this regards from me

Hey hey, I want to tell you I'm waiting for you

Hey hey, the time is still when I'm waiting for my lover

Hey hey, the faith wanted you to be mine

Hey hey, In some days it's saturday you know

Hey hey, then a beautiful dream will come true

Heeeey eeey, soon you will come down from the valley to meet your lover

hey hey, the week is over, saturday will be nice, saturday will be nice

Nora Brockstedt with 'Voi Voi' :D :cheer:

Songs, which I like, love and adore:

These 2 songs are wonderful. Ironic, both artists won ESC later, but I prefer their first entries.

Vicky Leandros - L'amour est bleu [Luxembourg - 1967] [in my top]

Hanne Krogh - Lykken Er [Norway - 1971] [# 2]

Monica Aspelund - Lapponia [Finland - 1977] [in my top]

Kate Gulbrandsen - Mitt Liv [Norway - 1987] [in my top]

Kirsti Sparboe, Hanne Krogh, Anita Skorgan, Anne-Karine Strom, Ellen Nikolaysen, Grethe Kausland...

Many years ago Norway was wonderful in Eurovision

Do you like postcards from Eurovision 1975?

They were fun and original. My favourite postcards ever.

The postcards in 75 was good, but the presenter was probably one of the worst  until 2012 of course :P

Semi final 2009 presenters might be a bit worse than in 1975

Germany

Denmark

Israel

Norway

The postcards in 79 was really cheesy
