32 Nelly Furtado - Say It Right 2007 UK#10 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1echi_ne...-it-right_music

Probably the best Timbaland production of his career. This track reached USA#1, and went Top 10 all around the world.

31 Semisonic - Chemistry 2001 UK#35 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xs0pb_sem...chemistry_music

The title track of the US Power Pop band third and final album became a minor UK & USA hit in the spring of 2001.

30 Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars 2006 UK#6 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xtwli_sno...hasing-cars_fun

This USA Top 5 hit has spent 94 weeks in the UK Top 75 to date, the longest chart runner this decade. Unlike a lot of similar indie anthems of the decade (Mr Brightside; Sex On Fire; Take Me Out; Seven Nation Army) this track has not been dulled to my music tastes via over exposure.

29 Portishead - The Rip 2008 UK Flop http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbk9xr_po...d-the-rip_music

This folk-rock meets Krautrock electronica track taken from the challenging Third Portishead album has been covered by Radiohead as evidence of its strange beauty.

28 Doves - There Goes The Fear 2002 UK#3 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3aaw_dov...-the-fear_music

The first single from Doves' second studio album The Last Broadcast gave the Manchester group their biggest hit to date.

27 Goldfrapp - Lovely Head 2001 UK#68 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1vbra_go...ly-head-2_music

This stunning atmospheric cinemanic track was released as the album's first single in May 2000. In November 2001, the song was re-issued as a double A-side single with "Pilots (On a Star)". In 2002, "Lovely Head" appeared in the Guy Ritchie film Swept Away where it was the only good thing about that awful movie.

26 A-ha - Summer Moved On 2000 UK#33 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xiz4v_aha...ermovedon_music

Their first single in more than 6 years. The song was originally hastily written after a-ha agreed to a one-time reunion at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in 1998. There had been a lot of bad feelings between the band members, and each was hesitant to reunite. The thunderous success at the concert in performing only 2 songs inspired the band to reunite after a 4 year hiatus to record their sixth album for release in 2000. This song became a #1 radio hit in much of Europe including all of Scandinavia.

25 Embrace - Nature's Law 2006 UK#2 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1g4nx_em...tures-law_music

This triumphant comeback song produced by Youth went into chart infamy after it lost out on the UK#1 spot (to Ne-Yo's So Sick) due to their record company Independiente messing up on the eligibility of one of the formats for the single.

Nature's Law is quite possibly my favourite indie single of all time

I bought it on CD and DVD, so it's a shame one of those didn't count to the chart if what you say is true :(

24 Sugababes - Overload 2000 UK#6 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xfq1k_sug...-overload_music

The first and quite frankly best IMHO single by the UK's finest girlgroup trio. I wonder what odds you could have got in 2000 that the Sugababes would still be going into 2010 with none of the original Sugababes in their lineup? As this year's Xmas TOTP proved the new lineup may well look more aesthically pleasing on the eye; and they certainly seem to be tighter than ever with their harmonies ...... but it ain't the Sugababes IMHO it's Trigger's Broom syndrome.

23 Oasis - Sunday Morning Call 2000 UK#4 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xqut0_oas...ning-call_music

For me this brilliant Noel sung track was virtually the only redeeming thing to come out of Oasis 4th & worst studio album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants probably because Noel decided to rip off classic 1970s Pink Floyd for a change rather than the usual Beatles rip offs.

22 Take That - Rule The World 2007 UK#2 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3o1kq_ta...the-world_music

In the same way chart historians look back to the chart in 1967 and are utterly bemused at how Engelbert Humperdinck's Please Release Me kept The Beatles' most critically acclaimed single Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane at #2, I'm sure they will do the same in 40 years time with Leona Lewis' sterile (well it was written by the bloke from One Republic who makes Chris Martin seem like Thom Yorke in comparison) Bleeding Love kept this wonderful the best a-ha verse never written with the best Bee Gees chorus never written at #2. The fact this song still hangs around the Top 200 long after Bleeding Love has disappeared is proof of its greatness.

21 Keane - Everybody's Changing 2004 UK#4 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbkq9l_ke...-changing_music

Originally their debut release on the independent Fierce Panda label, it became their second single taken from their major label debut Hopes and Fears album. Internationally it is their most successful single including peaking at #2 in Italy.

20 Girls Aloud - Biology 2005 UK#4 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1rlhu_gi...d-biology_music

The track that is probably this decade's ultimate "this is awful" on first hearing .... to "this is the best thing since sliced bread" a dozen plays later. Surely Xenomania's finest 3 minutes plus. By far the best thing GA have ever done iMHO.

19 Christina Aguilera - Beautiful 2003 UK#1 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x173hz_beautiful_music

Probably the best ever song written by Linda Perry. This Grammy winning ballad effort was a global hit reaching the top spot in the UK; Australia; Canada; Ireland; New Zealand & Romania and peaked at #2 in the USA.

I love Rule The World much much more than Bleeding Love, but still, both are classics that I doubt will be forgotten particularly seeing as Bleeding Love was a worldwide hit - from musical merit in many countries where she never promoted/had Cowell related hype

Rule The World was sadly a flop everywhere else it was released, peaking at a disasterous #15 in Germany :( definitely a UK classic but there was no shame losing out to Bleeding Love in my opinion - both were decade defining songs

I think I'm possibly the only person in the world who doesn't go bat$h!t crazy over Biology.

18 Vitamin C - Graduation (Friends Forever) 2000 UK Flop http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xv08w_vit...tion-song_music

This Spice Girls sounding track was written by US singer Colleen Ann Fitzpatrick in 1999. It was a sleeper hit only ever peaking at USA#38 despite spending 43 weeks on the Top 100. However it reached #2 in Australia. More interestingly OMD frontman Andy McCluskey freely admits to being "inspired" by this track to write "Whole Again" the monster Atomic Kitten UK#1 smash hit.

17 Will Young - Leave Right Now 2003 UK#1 (and Year End #1) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3wdg9_wi...right-now_music

Written by Eg White, this Ivor Novello winning track was the opening single from Will's second album Friday's Child and reached the top spot in both the UK as well as Ireland.

I think I'm possibly the only person in the world who doesn't go bat$h!t crazy over Biology.

only peaked at #5 in my personal chart :o it's a very messy song - very good - but all over the place

I assume this Vitamin C song is this track you referred to once in BJSC as an Aussie #2 you were considering sending

never heard it before, very good song actually, sounds like it's based on Pachelbel's Canon in places a la Coolio's C U When U Get There - very classy sounding track - I would have given you at least 8 points for this if you'd sent it to BJSC

16 Flaming Lips - Do You Realize?? 2002 UK#32 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x49irm_do...ming-lips_music

This quite stunning, and very emotional track was written by Wayne Coyne after the death of his father, and "how precarious our whole existence is..."

15 Royksopp ft Robyn - The Girl And The Robot 2009 UK Flop (Year End #1) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9ec4v_ro...rl-and-th_music

This brilliant demented, choral, electronic masterpiece is of course the greatest track ever to be entered in the Buzzjack Song Contest. It reached #2 in Norway; yet in the UK disgustingly failed because of Radio 1; Radio 2 & MTV snubbing the track on their playlists. (Somehow I cannot see the Kylie re-recording of the track suffer the same fate if it does end up making the cut for her next album). However, the track is up for the Best Dance/Electronica recording at the 2010 Grammy's.

14 Alicia Keys - Fallin' 2001 UK#3 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x28owe_al...ys-fallin_music

Alicia's breakthrough Grammy winning smash hit and signature tune and her maiden stateside #1 hit and first UK Top 5 hit. This track was a Top 100 hit all around the globe during 2001.

13 Coldplay - The Scientist 2002 UK#10 (Year End #1) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xm2b_coldplay-the-scientist

The second single from Coldplay's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. It was the last track written for Coldplay's best album to date after Chris Martin listened to George Harrison's "Isn't It A Pity" and took inspiration to drastically improve on the dirginess of the that track. A great sad video too.

12 Natalie Imbruglia - Shiver 2005 UK#8 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1cnjo_na...ia-shiver_music

The second Eg White song in my Decade end Top 20, this melancholic song may only have peaked at UK#8 but it was an airplay #1 hit for five weeks and was all over the radio in Europe and Australasia.

11 Annie - Chewing Gum 2004 UK#25 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x55db_ann...ewing-gum_music

This electropop song co-written by Richard X was clearly inspired by early 1980s Tom Tom Club records. The song is based on a metaphor likening men to chewing gum. It reached the top 10 in Annie's native Norway.

10 Aimee Mann - Wise Up 2000 UK Flop http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3ubcx_ai...e-up-live_music

After 15 years as a critically acclaimed artist with minimal record sales Aimee finally broke back through to the mainstream with the Magnolia OST which featured the cast singing this song at a key point in the movie. Although a commercial failure in the UK this song peaked at #2 in Australia; went top 5 in New Zealand and was a major airplay hit in the USA following on from the previous single "Save Me".

9 Take That - Patience 2006 UK#1 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbmqm4_ta...-patience_music

A candidate for the greatest comeback song ever .... This soaring inspiring BRIT & Ivor Novello Award winning song also reached #1 in Germany; Italy; Spain; Austria & Switzerland. The video appeared to show them attempting to climb their way out of the reservoir they were pushed into from the 1996 farewell single "How Deep Is Your Love".

8 Robyn ft Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat 2007 UK#1 (Year End #1) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3tnmj_ro...heartbeat_music

This electropop ballad was only a #18 in Robyn's native Sweden; but it went Top 10 in Denmark; Belgium & Holland as well as going Top 20 in a lot of other European countries. But it was most successful in the UK where it reached the top of the charts.

7 Badly Drawn Boy - Disillusion 2000 UK#26 (Year End #1)

Damon Gough was reportedly inspired by the idea of Edwin Collins' Orange Juice rewriting Stevie Wonder's Superstition to come up with this forgotten gem of a folk rock tune. Taken from the excellent but ramshackle debut album The Hour Of Bewilderbeast. Great but odd Garth Jennings directed video too.

6 Melanie C - First Day Of My Life 2006 UK Flop http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xpazk_mel...f-my-life_music

This song written by Guy Chambers and Enrique Iglesias went on to become a monster hit in Europe selling in excess of 1.8 million copies including #1 in Germany, Spain & Switzerland; Top 3 in Austra; Czech Republic & Russia; and Top 40 in virtually every other European nation bar Britain & Ireland where we are too busy worshipping that over hyped talent free zone that is Cheryl Cole to regard a female singer from a girlgroup who is currently nominated for a WhatsOnStage.com (aka nicknamed "the luvvies") award for her rave reviews and performances in the musical Blood Brothers as talented. This track spent a Chasing Cars like 57 weeks in the Swiss charts and 87 weeks in the German charts.

5 Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out Of My Head 2001 UK#1 (Year End #1) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2ai40_ky...-out-of-m_music

The best song Cathy Dennis has ever written. The best record Kylie has ever made and the biggest hit of her career, it reached number one in 40 countries and has sold over four million copies worldwide. The song became Minogue's first U.S. top-ten single in thirteen years and is recognised as Minogue's signature song. The highest placed UK#1 of the decade in my countdown.

4 Amy Winehouse - Rehab 2006 UK#7 (Year End #1) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9hvl2_am...use-rehab_music

Old school 1960s soul meets very modern 2000s tough, funny, matter of fact yet incredibly vulnerable lyrics ...... step back and watch the Grammys; BRITs; Ivor Novello awards, enormous record sales and notoriety flood in. Such a pity she has a death wish with regards to "her Blake".

3 Rufus Wainwright - I Don't Know What It Is 2004 UK#74 (Year End #1)

I can't for the life of me figure out why Rufus Wainwright is not a far bigger star this decade. Maybe he is just too talented, too funny, too charismatic in interviews and too gay (that he makes Russell T Davies seem like Danny Dyer) for his own good. This is his finest song that had the kitchen sink thrown at it. How can a track featuring Todd Rundgren; Joan Wasser; Teddy Thompson; Martha Wainwright & Joanna Newson not be?
