Yan's German chart comments - Issue date 18.12

Another week and another new number one in Germany. This time Danish singer Aura Dione rises one position to the top spot, replacing Black Eyed Peas there. Having in mind that "I Will Love You Monday" reached only #20 in Denmark, it is clear that Aura has become much bigger star in Germany than in her native country.

Not much going on in the top 20 of this week's chart, with Wham! entering the top 20 for yet another year with their Christmas classic "Last Christmas". At the same time the second single of Daniel Schuhamacher, the winner of DSDS not only missed the top 20 last week, but plummets 22-51 this time around...

The biggest new hit comes in at by David Guetta and Estelle. "One Love", a wonderful dance track, misses the top 20 (especially in comparison to the #2 peak of "When Love Takes Over" and the #1 of "Sexy Chick") but at least manages not to be a flop as in the UK.

Two years after the release of their latest album "Jazz ist anders", German band Die Aerzte release the fourth single taken from it. "HimmelblauPerfektBreit" actually combines three songs from the album and comes after the extremely catchy "Lasse redn". Unlike the previous single, the new one is only for those who are deeply fond of German music.

Five places below the doctors enters the latest single from Robbie Williams. After hitting number one with "Bodies" few months ago, and proving he is a megastar in Germany, Williams' newest single somewhat struggles to set the charts on fire with its debut. Still, "You Know Me" is a strong ballad and has huge chances to advance in the following winter days.

Good to see Mariah Carey's "I Want To Know What Love Is" making only #37. With an uninspired cover like this, I'm sure that Mariah has lost her mojo... The original of Foreigner reached #3 in 1984.

Next up at #39 we have Depeche Mode with the third single taken from the "Sounds of the Universe" LP. "Fragile Tension" follows the #2 hit "Wrong" and the #25 peak of "Peace". Despite missing the top 20, the single once again shows that the guys have a strong fan base in Germany.

Showing that the winning formula has faded away, the latest single of super producer Alex C with singer Y-ass has entered new at #41. The song is more or less the same as the project's biggest hits - number one "Du hast den schönsten Arsch der Welt" and #4 hit "Doktorspiele".

And finally for the singles chart, "Love Long Distance" the follow-up Gossip's surprisingly ultra successful hit "Heavy Cross" crashes at #44. At the same time, the previous single advances once again, this week standing comfortably at #6.

As long as the albums chart is concerned, Ich+Ich remain steady at the top, with Robbie rising again to #2. Unlike UK and USA, the Germans are not so crazy about Susan Boyle, so she has to be happy with entering at "only" #3.
