So, Enya's official online forum doesn't want to have anything to do with a live debate.

My question to all of you here. Will Enya ever perform live? Why hasn't she performed live yet? Why do you think that Aigle [her recording studio] talks soo much about a live show and never makes good on their talks?

An interesting debate was raging on Unity, and it was shut down, and most of the interesting comments were deleted. I'd like to discuss this here FREELY.

I would love to see Enya do a full concert and i dont know why they dont, it would really open up her music as live music is unbeatable, it would also be great promotion for her.

The following post is my opinion, and mine alone, and, if I step on any toes in the process, too bad......

I am of the belief that, the Trio SAY they'll do a live show just to get the press off their back......and, after some deliberations about it, more than likely decide that, since they really can't pull it off to their satisfaction, scrap the ideas when they're brought up.....knowing that some of the fans would whine and complain that 'Enya should have sung this or that, or, used this technique or that to try to pull off the cd sound....'

Would I, personally, like to see some sort of a live show? Sure, but, I'll not keep harping and grousing about one not being done......somehow, I think Enya is more suited to being a studio performer, than a live performer, but, that's not to say she couldn't pull off a one-off live show......

If Enya ever does a live show, fine, but, if she never does one, it won't hurt my feelings any.....unlike some, who enjoy flogging the dead horse, which I feel is the live concert debate......

Enya has, as I'm sure most around here are most awatre, has sold nearly 80 million albums without a concert of any kind, which speaks volumes, to me at least, of the selling power of her name alone, and word of mouth among the fans.....a concert might, or might not, add to sales, there's just no clear-cut facts to say that such an event would help sales.....

Here ends my rant about this topic......

Will Enya ever perform live?: I'm thinking probably not because I'm wondering if they feel it won't live up to expectations and recreating the layering is tough.

Why hasn't she performed live yet? The touring would be a long and hectic schedule and it's well known that Enya likes to focus on the music, the tour would take away a huge chunk of time from that. I think it's a combination of factors that is stopping them.

Why do you think that Aigle [her recording studio] talks soo much about a live show and never makes good on their talks?: I agree that it could be to get people off their back...or it could just be the simple fact that they want to, but are hard pressed for the time to do so.

..and that concludes my two cents. ;) I wouldn't mind having a live show, but it's perfectly fine with me if they decide not to go through with it. It's not something that I sit and brood over. My main interest is the music output. I'm sure there's a good reason as to why they haven't followed through with it up to this point.

Bigwig, for citing that this is flogging a dead horse, you've certainly have taken the whip and given it your best go.

I believe this topic remains because, as aforementioned, EVERY TIME they release an album they talk about a live show. EVERY F****ng time! I don't buy the 'oh, she's just more comfortable being a studio musician' line, I just don't. As an artist, I would think she would JUMP at the chance to express her music in a different form. Also, Enya performing live shouldn't be about album sales. I don't get the argument that she doesn't need to because she's already sold so many cds. A live show should be about celebrating the music and offering it to your fans as something special, not sales. If Enya was to solely perform because of additional sales, then I wouldn't be behind the endeavor. The facts are, the Celtic Women [and others] have beaten Enya to the punch and perform her songs live, and they're not half bad. I'm a fan of choral music in general and there are some breathtaking groups out there that would render 'enya live' flawlessly. This wouldn't be difficult, Aigle is just stalling or not interested, yet, giving the impression of interest just until the promotional cycle is at an end. As long as they keep talking about performing live, this topic will always be front and center. If some are tired of people talking about then you should also be tired of Aigle talking about it as well. It's just that simple.

I can't see a live show ever happening tbh, and realistically I don't actually think there'd be a massive demand for her. Certainly not in the UK anyway. Anyway, I don't really think they're that bothered about doing one, or they would've already done it... I don't really buy the thing about them not being able to do it either, if she was going to do a live show I don't think it'd really matter if all the layers weren't present. Obviously songs like Afer Ventus would need some form of backing vocal, but if they didn't want to use a pre-recorded Enya version then they could just hire a few choir singers instead. The subject will keep cropping up, but I don't think they'll be doing one anytime soon truth be told.

I think it's a valid discussion point to raise. I've never been bothered about a live concert to be honest. I think I kind of realised there would never be one after Shepherd Moons when she disappeared back into the studio to work on The Memory of Trees. There are a few reasons why I don't hunger for a tour or one-off live concert:

1. I doubt I'd get a ticket because demand would be enormous

2. I'm not sure it would live up to my expectations. I don't really want to hear a choir singing 'Enya'

3. I think Enya would be incredibly nervous as she clearly was at the Oscars

4. It would further delay the next studio album

For me, Enya is a recording artist, not a performer.

I believe you're absolutely correct in all of your assumptions Ben. I don't think Enya is a performer either. She's a studio-bound artist, always will be. It's certainly interesting to watch Aigle spin their way out of this discussion. I remember in one interview Enya said that the reason is that there were only 7 albums, like, that's not enough of a repertoire to choose 12 to 18 songs for a live show. The funniest part of the interview was, at the time, she cited 7 albums, when in fact, she had only released 5, haha. Anyway.....I've strapped in for the wait until she releases her next album. I heard that she's not in the studio at the moment so it will probably 2011 or 2012 until the next album.
I actually hope it's 2013. And Winter Came is my least favourite Enya album so far so I kind of hope she takes 5 years on the next one.
